Dupont Chain Lube Cap clogs

Is anyone else having issues with the Caps of thier Dupont Multi-Lube/Chainsaver clogging after very little use?

It has happened a bunch of times with about half a dozen cans I have and it's frustrating!

When your done using it . Turn the can upside down and give it a few sprays....this will let the pressurized air escape clearing the nozzle for your next use.

I always use that stuff with the red spray extending tube provided...

never had a problem. I always give the can a good shake though, to clear the nozzle/tube

Keep it warm, don't leave in the shed or unheated garage. It is a wax base you know! As said , invert the can to clear nozzle the same as rattle can paint.

Anyone usin gthis product? Thinkink of trying it this coming season, Might be less messy then the spray cans. I have read a couple of reviews that have been pretty positive

Pretty reasonably priced.

Ok.

I'm reviving this thread. I have about 3 cans of DuPont lube and No caps cause they are all clogged.

I've tried turning the can upside down and "clearing" the nozzle after use, and I have tried keeping the cans in a warm place but the caps still get clogged!

....and I know I'm not the only one now cause I saw a review on the WebBikeWorld saying the same thing!!

Anyone else experiencing this and has found away to prevent the clog or to cure it afterwards?

I tried putting the caps in boiling water but that didn't clear them.

I just throw the cap on my Tirox chain cleaner can and give it a quick squirt when done never had an issue.

That's actually a good idea. I'll try that.

Apparently DuPont is aware of the issue and will be changing the nozzles but who knows when.

I'm nearing the end to my first can and haven't had an issue. Although, I use the red tube provided.

honestly, i use the stuff all the time, and never had an issue of one clogging...even after the winter.

never had problems with mine.

side note: a couple of local shops have commented on this, saying that this lube is 'too thin and dry' any thoughts?!. i usually spray and let it dry for a little bit before riding. still fling off and leave white stuff on the side wall of tires.

i took a nozzle from another can and put in on the dupont stuff.

Being "thin and dry" is what makes it so good lol, so I'm not sure what the shops are complaining about. You don't want a "wet" lube, otherwise it flings and attracts a lot of dirt. Dupont Chain Saver is probably one of the most recommended chain lubes out there.

I haven't had any trouble with flinging. I spray on, let it dry for a while, and then gently wipe the bottom of the chain with a rag to get rid of any excess.

Dont listen to them. The thing with Dupont lube is you will be lubing your chain every week or so, but rarely ever cleaning it, because the dirt runs off. Oil based lubes last way longer, but the chain gets dirty faster, increasing the wear. Generally, when I buy a new (used) bike, I will clean the chain really well, until its spotless, then do about 10 rotations of the dupont lube. After that, every week or so, just another quick spray. Chain stays perfect, always lubed (you can feel it if you run your hands along the chain, bike off obviously). Never had a problem.

that's exactly what they did. run their fingers along the chain, rubbed their fingers together and told me 'your chain is too dry not enough lube' and asked me if i lube my chain. i told them i use dupont chain saver. and they proceeded to tell me it's no good and showed me my chain and their fingers running along it and rubbing them (indicating it was dry and not enough lube).

these were two separate local shops and two different mechanics (one with a bystander agreeing). one of the incidents, i had just lubed my chain beginning of the week and i was at the shop on the weekend.

what i've noticed is that, after using a different lube on the bike, once i go back to using the dupont chainsaver lube, a lot of crap comes out of the chain when spraying the dupont one. i guess it's the cleaning effect.

Where can I get spare red tube things??? I keep losing mine ... I swear there's a little troll hiding on my property stealing my red tubes.

Its because theyre looking for a big thick layer of black grease to come off on their finger when they rub the chain, because oil based lubes need to be visible with that test to indicate they are properly applied. Dupont isnt like that because its applying a layer of teflon to the chain, and it wont "feel" greasy like oil based lube, but its still slick compared to a bare chain. Just like some dudes will never believe a japanese bike beats a harley, or that diesel oil works in bikes, people hate on things that are different than their expectations. You can either believe them or not, its up to you, just like most other opinion based things in life.

The way I look at this is, if a company will trust this lube for chains in a machine that costs 500,000 dollars and has 100hp diesel engine powering it, im going to trust it on my 4000 dollar bike with 13hp. Just follow the maintenance schedule and you will be fine. Or switch to an oil based lube on the recommendation of the shop, at the end of the day they really will be doing the same thing, and the difference is marginal in terms of how effective it will be. The reason I use Dupont lube personally is that very few of my bikes have chain guards, or at least chain guards which are completely solid, so oil based lube flings all over the bike. But when I go to Ted's, he uses Motul and it works perfectly fine as well, even if its a bit messy.

You dont need it, the spray from the cap itself is narrow enough. Hold the can about 6 inches from the chain and spray. Alternatively, go to canadian tire and buy a can of WD40, it comes with a red tube. You cant buy them separately, and please dont steal one from a store because its annoying as **** to buy a can of something that needs the extended tube and have it be missing.
