Towing a Motorcycle WITH a Motorcycle

I Like to ride, and in so doing I ride all types of bikes in all types of environments and sometimes that required me to drive the truck to get the bike to an off-road adventure or maybe getting the track bike to the track. Spending hours getting someplace in the truck is not my idea of fun so I set out to tackle the problem and this is my solution!

Sweet!

Towing a cruiser in a cruiser seems odd... But I love the idea of pullin a dirtbike for rides up north!

I had just bought the little 535 Virago and was loaded to take it home. I also use the trailer if I have to take bikes to and from the shop for work that I do not preform myself.

Pretty sweet mod. But it sucks that you'll have to be easy on the corners.

Why? I am going to ride up to the Hershey Center this weekend with the trailer and the Hawk GT in tow, might see how extreme I can make the corners with the trailer in tow??

I guess because of the weight swingin around behind you. But I'm just imagining it, in reality it's probably not that bad.

Its not that bad, bad bumps are worse.

I have towed bikes over 3,000 k already including thru the Adirondacks in New York a couple times with speeds at and above 140 kph even in the rain. Takes a little practice to get used to it.

Did you build this yourself. Or did you buy it? How much money? I'm interested. I've often thought about buying a dirt bike, but i don't have a car.

I manage pretty well, Thanks

For the next trailer design I have already spec'd an axel with electric disc brakes. In the mean time I have upgraded the bikes triple disc brakes to have braided steel lines and R-1 Calipers.

I designed it, speced the material and built it, but at the time I did not have a welder, so I had a local shop cut the pieces and do the welding for me. Some of the pices and parts make it expensive, such as the swivel hitch that was over $200. like the ones here: http://www.motorcycletrailerstore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65_73

On my next build I plan to do one with Disc Brakes and have been looking at this axel: http://fuerma.en.alibaba.com/product/265562971-212739304/Torsion_axle_with_disc_brake.html

Why would you go for disc brakes on a trailer when drums work well enough and are proven?

Electric brakes to keep everything tracking straight while slowing down are a great idea though. Does anyone make a brake controller that can be mounted outside? Surge brakes may be a more practical approach (although I would prefer electric if you could overcome the controller and power issues).

Cool project so far, I like it. The next trailer, I'd try to get the weight down, it looks damn solid as currently constructed. The lighter trailer should help with the bumps.

used all light gauge 2" tube except the draw bar and support for it. Deck is aluminum Diamond plate. It is actually pretty light.

I like the idea of the disc, heck even bikes have all gone to disc, easier to work on and see when they need work, less mess when doing the work as well. Have not looked into the brake controller yet. Most bike trailers even the campers dont have any brakes so this will be a step forward.

Very neat indeed...

One of these would probably work well, if the hitch were swapped out for a swivel..

The whole trailer only weighs 140lbs..

It'll fit in a duffel bag...won't be able to lift it easily though lol...I love this idea, as well but when I did some more research it's highly recommended against my car (Genesis Coupe 3.8 ) towing anything behind it:( A 140lb trailer and a CBR250R doesn't add up to much weight...I may be overly paranoid about it but not sure.
