I've got a buddy at work who just spent $20k plus on a Harley Night Rod, and then proceeded to rip it apart to customize it starting in July.I asked him: do you want to ride it, or do you want it to look pretty... because by the time you get it looking right summer will be over?Thing is, he is only 26, but a show-off through and through. **** sakes... if you are going to spend that coin on a bike, ride the *****.

Clue me in - why is this a problem at this particular time of year. It's not Octoberfest yet.
What's going on in K.W. :???:

Ok,it's better now.A big storm front came thru and the annual HA bbq is a washout now.Usually it's about 2 full days of drag piped noisemakers and unmarked cars all around this little area of Erbsville.

So.... the real problem here is that your weren't invited. Right ???

So... you must be an HDer who thinks paying way too much for old unreliable tech is good and pissing off the locals with too much noise is cool? Right ???

... and this has what do to with the thread at hand?

He's money so he can do whatever he wants with it. Non of ya business if he ride it or not haha

A lot of the HD's are sort of loud out the showroom door. If the BBQ of which you speak is an "HA event" you'll be surprised to find a lot of the bikes are stock and so are the cars/trucks. They give the police little reason to stop them and no "just because" tickets to deal with.

By my place I get civics/neons/whatever cheap crap + loud mufflers going up and down University and Erbsville a few nights a week. It really is annoying.

And you must be one of those dumbasses who doesn't know **** about motorcycles, right???

Wrong. All Harleys meet current noise and emissions regulations "out the showroom floor". It's the idiot owners who dump the stock pipes in favour of unmuffled straight pipes that cause people to believe that HD's are loud from the factory.

Oh so that's what the guy sporting full HA colours who filtered through about a mile of traffic on a bright orange Road Glide in Hagersville on his way to PD13 was doing,....not being noticed.

/wink

@ the OP...I feel your pain. I have asked the Two Brothers exhaust burnout crew to stop performing at the Tim Horton's across the street from me...alas, to no avail. Any tips would be appreciated.

Yeah, you're the first one on the left, yes?

Whenever someone bad mouth's HD, without fail, you're the first one of the "gang" to jump the thread and defend the faith. I'm sure the rest will be along once they catch wind.

Almost forgot, should we call you Kaiser?

You know, listening to the Harley 1200 race at Mosport I was struck by how quiet these RACE bikes were even in full race mode. They sounded admittedly somewhat louder than stock, but that "louder" was more along the lines of somewhat muffled rolling thunder and nothing at all like the ear-splitting racket that straight pipes make. One of these 1200 race bikes could roll down my street even in the dead of night and it still wouldn't give me any reason to look twice at its passage as far as noise is concerned.

Funny how you, without fail, are one of the first of the "gang" to show up in an HD bashing thread to offer up some usueless and trivial bit of ********. I guess we're both consistent in our ways.

Turning hydrocarbons into noise since 1903...

Actually some of the stock pipes sound pretty good without being loud. I have never heard a good aftermarket pipe, they all sound like baffed out tractors with them.

I was thinking pretty much the same thing - but you answered your own question - the race bikes are tuned for performance, not noise.
