Kawasaki KLX250? Seat height is 34.8" but would sag even under your weight. Go throw a leg over one and see how it feels.

Looking for:

1. A bike that I can touch the ground on...5'4ish.
2. Can ride on a paved track, & is fun to ride (have 3 years 600cc experience, a slow intermediate rider)
3. Can ride on the street, & cheap on insurance.

I'd love a drz 400, but I need more height :( Advice/ideas?

Thanks all :)

Get the DRZ maggie.

its pretty simple to set up for your height, you'd be fine on it.

It's not as hard as you think to be short on bikes like that. You can lean them a lot better at stop lights and you'll be fine.

your butt will make suspension sag to the proper height,,,,,,,(Ducks to avoid frying pan)

you can pull the forks up a bit, it will quicken steering also.

the rear shock is pretty soft to start so it will sag quite a bit.

Remember, this is no a roadrace bike, the suspension is MUCH softer

even it's a tall bike with practice you should be ok. just lean over a bit so u can have one foot down. when bike is on kickstand just mount it like a horse. i heard from ppl even with kickstand up, you can horse mount and ride away in a single motion.

recips wife should be able to build lifts onto your boots. give you a few more inches.

what about the crf230 (street version, L trim i think)?

Yamaha WR250? Fuel injected fun.

Hey Maggie,
I used to have a DRZ 400sm when I sold it, the girl that bought was about 5'4" and maybe 100lbs, I bought a lowering link kit from tri-city in kitchener for about $70... the bike fit her fine.

Theres a fellow on Thumpertalk riding a KTM 450 EXC. If you are not familiar with this model it has a 37" seat height and he is only 5'6". So it can be done if you are determined.

Just to throw this in here, I ride a DRZ400SM, I'm 5'9"-5'10", and I'm on the balls of my feet with both down, and can flat foot one down with just a little lean.

The stock seat is pretty thick and can be replaced with an OEM gel seat which you can usually find on eBay. That will take 1.5-2" off the height if I remember right (and make the bike a lot more comfortable). You can also find lowering links to bring it down even further.

Personally, I think you might have a hard time with the ride height without doing the seat and/or links.

Thanks for the help guys. I think anything under a 400 would be gutless since I'm use to riding a both a 636 and 750 on the track. So I'm going to stick with finding a drz, I'm going to try and see how it is with the gel seat first, then work on lowering/supsension. Off to kijiji to search for one :)

you can't look at it this way.

ANYTHING you buy in this type of bike is going to feel gutless if you try to compare it and ride it like a sportbike.

They aren't designed to work like a sportbike.

Well then how the hell do you make them look as much fun as sportbikes?! kidding. I know, I'm not comparing it to a sportbike, but I don't want something that won't move when I open the throttle.

Teach me to back it in? ;)
