Hey folks!

A little back story. I rode to work 2 days ago. Bike started fine and rode smooth. After work, when i went to start her up, the battery was completely dead. It could barely keep the gague lights on. Figured its a dead battery. Got a new one, bikes started normal. Rode about 45kms home and no problems. Normal ride. Next day after work(about 20 hours later), got a multimeter, checked the new battery to see if i have a parasitic drain or whether my charging system works. The battery showed 12.8v when bike was off. On start it would drop to 11.7v. On idle it was at 13.5v and when rev was 5000, it was showing 14.6-7v consistently. So figures battery is good and bike is charging.

Today i took her for a test run. It rode fine for about 10 minutes with normal power but then at a light, when i wanted to get moving, the bike was struggling in first gear. I thought its going to shut off.
It didnt shut off but it slowly picked up speed. The power loss was through all gears (at low and higher RPMs) and from stopping point to 90km/h (didnt go faster) Its a consistent power loss. The best way to describe it would be like riding a 250 instead of a 600 (no pun intended). The bike moves but much slower than it should. Almost like i lost more than half the power. And the engine sounds a bit rough.

When in neutral, it revs fine. It revs up smooth and fast and no problems. I feel the power loss when i put in in gear and start moving. Bike is so lazy.

Not sure if the battery issue has anything to do with this or not but figure id share just in case it'd be a clue into what the problem is.

Please help guys!

How many Km on bike, ever changed plugs? Sounds like you got multiple problems. Maybe a loose connection or two or maybe your lucky enough to have a mouse house In your bike

Did you change your clutch like you were supposed to or not yet?

I had a similar issue when I was trying to fit a spare fuel tank on my track bike. It turned out to be a gunk'ed up fuel pump and once I replaced the pump, the bike was running fine again. Just a thought.

Thanks Mina. No havnt changed the clutch yet. The clutch is fine for now. No slipping/issues. But this could be the pump. Im either not getting a good fuel flow or as Mathew mentioned, could be that i dont have a strong enough spark. Im just baffled as to why it happened so suddenly. Gotta find out how to check the pump.

So i finally figured out what the problem was. Thought i'd share the results in case anyone comes across a similar problem. In my case, it ended up being a dead coil. A simple way to test it is to grab a windex bottle, spray your headers and see if they are all equally hot. My fourth header was cold so after ruling out the park plugs, it ended up being a dead coil.

Either that or use a temp gun or touch it quickly with your hand pretty easy test glad u figured it out :) I knew it was only running on two :p

Have the same problem now with my bike.

But my issue was a blown fuse. My problem is I keep blowing the fuse so I have a short somewhere. Now the fun part starts.

When i was trying to figure out my issue, i came across a couple of good videos on youtube with a simple (timy consuming still)procedural methods of figuring out where your problem is with a short. Do a search and theres some good stuff on the net that can save you a lot of time. either that or keep a bunch of fuses in your pocket

That's what makes electrical work fun. Trying to find the problem - you know it's a problem - but gotta find the source
