Yep, Another crappy gas Thread, 2012

I find my bike is finicky with gas. Bought gas from ultramar. From the start, my bike felt sluggish. Almost like water was somehow mixed in with the gas. I also find no frills gas crap. I like esso. Their gas is consistently good.

Hmmm. Are you running premium/91? I know ultramar doesn't use any ethanol in their 91, same with Shell. Maybe your bike likes the alcohol ;)

No, I use regular. On occasion I run shell v power. I do this because they claim they have detergents that clean carbon out of your engine. Other than that, my bike runs great on regular gas.

In the manual it tells you what you can put in there. My Yamaha R6 says 91 recommended and when i put 87 in it, it doesnt go as fast, 91 works like a charm. But my current ninja says 87 so, 87 it is. It depends on what the Japs tweaked it on.

You could try dumping some Seafoam into the gas tank to see if it helps. It water's in there, apparently it dries thing up.

Try using gasline antifreeze. It may absorb some of the water.

I would be willing to bet that it isn't a fuel issue.

I have put Ultramar in my bike a couple times, and each time I had issues until I got gas in it from elsewhere.

Shell 91 has no ethanol, it's the only stuff that goes in my sled in the winter.

My FZ6 requires just 87 so that's what I run... Just not from Ultramar

petro ultra 94 for both of my bikes.
+1! if unavailable i use the next highest octane level, usually 91... After cleaning all the crap in my carb after i bought my bike, i only use higher octane gas to reduce/clean my old lines, pump and keep the carb clean, and of course the cylinder and plugs. Never had any problems with petro gas.

Ultramar 91 also has no ethanol. I've had an issue or two with their regular fuel, but not with their 91 :)

Same here, I often gas up at the Ultramar (91) in Shelburne with no adverse effects. Perhaps their regular has more ethanol blended into it than other regulars.

Could by why then since I would have just put regular in... I used to throw premium in it, but the manual doesn't call for it and I notice no difference in mileage or power.

I find on average I get 6% better fuel mileage with non-ethanol based fuel (averaged over 43,000km's). My manual calls for 91 so I gotta run it, so I use only non-ethanol when available now.
