Anyone catch the races at Miller Motorsports Park on Monday?

First time I've seen WSKB and AMA at the same track on the same day (WSBK race 1 around noon, then AMA, then WSBK race 2 at 7pm).

The difference in lap times is negligible between the 2 series all in all. So, why bother having the 2 circuits? I'm guessing it's the money factor - WSBK has lots of it, AMA not so much so. WSBK goes all over the world, AMA stays in the US. Travel would make it pretty much impossible for smaller manufacturers (i.e. EBR) or privateer teams to stay in the WSBK.

But, I would like to see the AMA top riders compete head on against the WSBK riders...

Thoughts?

Not too long ago AMA riders went head to head with the WSBK riders in the US WSBK race(s).

I would guess that most AMA riders would jump to WSBK in a second, given the chance.

Why bother having 2 circuits? They're entirely different organizations... one American, one international. WSBK is the cream of the crop for production bike racing.

When you say negligible how much is it exactly? Cause the difference in lap record between a 600 and a 1000

Is only a second or 2 at most tracks.

Not to mention wsb and AMA use different tire brands which makes it difficult to compare lap times.

Specs are different too. WSBK bikes have very liberal rules (relatively speaking), whereas AMA bikes are more restricted in what they can do.

Best lap times from this past weekend:
WSBK Carlos Checa - 1:48.97
AMA Josh Hayes - 1:49.48

Sure, it's half a second, but these are comparing best laps from the races.
Looks like there's about half a second across the field of riders.

WSBK go there once a year, i know for sure AMA were there earlier this month testing, i don't know how many other times during the year they go there as well.

I'm fairly confident if you took an AMA bike and put it up against a WSBK at Silverstone or Assen the difference would be more than a second.

FWIW Hayes rode a significantly faster lap than his team mate, and maybe also consider that the WSBK race 2 was interrupted by a red flag.

Was funny seeing the european billboard ads during the AMA race.

Oh, and WSBK BMW Melandri..... :)

Going back a few years when Mlsdin was still riding the AMA bikes were allowed similar modifications and the AMA bikes were competetive with the WSBK. Resently they restricted the AMA bikes Substantially, from what I recall Mladin was very disappointed and probably contributed to his retiring. The tire difference alone can easily add a second to lap times. There is just no way to make an apples to apples comparison.

Check out the upcoming Laguna Seca round.....the AMA 1000's will only be a couple seconds slower than the MotoGP bikes!! Those extra millions of dollars don't get you a whole lot time wise.......but a second at that level is an eternity.
