What is the optimal strategy here ? (All three blocks must leave the platform)

One of the barkers told me that aiming at the junction of the bottom and middle blocks on the front right corner is the play, throwing somewhat sidearm.

However in the video above it appears the strike was directly between the bottom front edge of the bottom block and the platform. (Observe the ball rebounding directly back to the player.

I was down there last night, just watching. It's $5 / ball, 5 balls for $20.

There is another game, to win the bike, "gun-ball", which looks a lot harder, though people are winning at it (occasionaly). You need to know a "triangle" of glasses over. The ball looks like a tennis ball, and is fired off a VERY WEAK "spring gun".

You can lean over and hold the gun ~2-3 feet from the targets. The ball barely gets to the glasses ;) The barker was showing the strategy (though even knowing it, it still needs a perfect "shot". (Aim at the top edge of the right hand glass.) I didn't find any videos for that game yet.

(The bike is worth ~$999). A guy who won one yesterday has already put it up for sale on Craig's list for $650

Perfect for the cottage! I wonder if I'm too big for it at 5'7 and 160....

Saw 4 of them won tonight though at the Ex :)

I still haven't tried yet though.

The guys who won were throwing VERY hard (and well ... heh at least on their winning throws).

Saw one kid blow ~$150 bucks in 10 minutes trying (and failing) (though coming close ( 2/3 blocks ~4-5 times)


The "gunball"game is arguably harder. Light "ping-pong" ball trying to knock over ~ 1/4 .. 1/2 pound glasses. Saw some close calls, but no wins. Barker told me there were 19 wins though since opening day.

Not sure which, if any game I'll try :/

1) No license, because 2) It's not a street legal bike, it's a "pocket bike".

There are 7 booths in the "main gaming" area (north of the ferris wheel), within ~100 yards of each other.

~1/2 of them are the "block buster" game (video I posted in op), the other half are the "gun-ball" game :

They are both very hard games to win. If you are athletically inclined / a good baseball player, the block-buster might be a bit easier.

The block-buster, the softballs are "maybe" regulation, (they felt pretty light), and the blocks are maybe 2lbs each.

On Thursday I watched 3 or 4 really good throwing guys get "close-but-no-cigar" (knocking 2/3 off repeatedly).

They were also spending ~$100 or more each in the attempt !

Tx man, good to know. I read that sign says "no cross throwing"...so that means you can't throw at an angle? Man, that's super-hard then. I guess you really need brute strength+some angle to succeed.

EDIT: just watched the vid...who the heck bought that thing for $92???!!!!! LOL.

So are you down at the EX now ? If so, anybody playing ? If not (to playing) go another night (Mon-Thurs after 5 p.m. admission is $6 bucks (Apparently if you "play" in the Casino for ~3 hrs you can get a free grounds pass)

"no cross throwing" means you can't stand in front of one "stack" and throw at another beside yours. You CAN stand ~2 feet or so to the side of "your stack" (Ask the barker what the rules are). I dunno what the advantage to a "cross throw" would be. (Hitting the blocks on the corner maybe ?)

Tx already have my fre pass+parking..not there now though. I think it would be better to hit at angle so the block has greater chance to slip off the diamond table...if you hit it straight-on....the block has more surface area to stay onbrd.
 
I was there yesterday and spent about 10 mins watching people attempt to win the bike w/ the block buster game. Margin of error is within a couple millimeters. Both the ball and blocks are super hard, so hitting the bottom and middle blocks at once is no small feat. Most people only hit the bottom block - then either the top two or just the top one fall straight down.

Nice-looking bike either way.

Argh, why did I have to know about this thread lol. I never wasted so much $$$$ on these types of game. Blew through $100 w/o success ($80 on the gun/$20 on the blocks). I'm so tempted to try again....arrgh.....

I was down there again tonight, just watching, still not playing;)

Yeah it takes a pretty good throw to say the least.

The ones I've seen win are throwing on a descending trajectory from the edge of the booth (most are running / striding up to it ... some are planting their foot their and throwing from a stationary position)

When I got there there were three bikes parked outside the booth. I was chatting with the guy beside them. Said that his son and two grand-sons won them. While we were chatting, his son won ANOTHER one. Again a hard descending throw.

Did you get "close" in either game (2 /3 ?)

Some idiot was showing his ATM slips, and that he thrown ~$2K at the game (blocks):D:lmao:

There's a bunch on kijiji now from $300-$600, but maybe he just wants to "beat" the game ... at any cost lol.

Lol, the guy trying to sell his for $300 already dumped it and somehow also broke the starter, but then he adds "no lowballs" (candidate for ridiculous ad section).

Yup maybe we were there same time. Got close a few times...only 1 block/cup remaining. It's freaking hard but I also saw quite a few ppl win.
 
Did you have the chain fully stretched out, and as horizontal as possible ? (Lots of people were standing straight up, chain at ~45 degree angle, 'wasting length', some not even stretching the chain)

Did you notice the ball would go higher than where you were aiming ?

Hmm, saw a couple of people holding the gun sideways "gangtsa" style, but not actually shooting that way. Doing so should ? compensate for the ball rising, though it would then go off to the side instead ... but with two cups on the bottom, that might be an advantage.

I tried to get in as close as possible. It seems to shoot higher than it should but you learn to compensate. Still it has to be a lucky shot to hit all 3.
