Will a suspended license affect insurnace?

Fried was unaware about his license suspended, got pulled over and received a suspension while driving ticket.

He forgot to pay his parking tickets, so ended up suspended. Would his insurance rate increase because of the suspension, considering that he fights off the suspension while driving ticket?

If he can prove he wasn't notificed about his suspended license (i.e. they don't have a registered letter with his signature on it), then he'll get off the charge easy. No idea if it'll affect his insurance though.

If your friend' wins the ticket, then he's clean. If not, then i believe it's 100% increase.

an administrative suspension should NOT affect his insurance but they may try to screw him. At that point he will have to argue that they legally are not allowed to and possibly get the ombudsman involved.

But that's the least of his worries right now. He needs to get rid of that driving while suspended ticket or it will screw him over hard. Did they also tow his car or was he given the opportunity to call someone and have them drive it away?

Tell him to check this out.

And its 'driving while suspended' or 'driving while under suspension' not 'suspension while driving'. That just sounds confusing.

"Forgot" to pay his parking tickets...... Riiiight.

This gentleman is correct. Only the ticket will affect his insurance (not sure if it's a 100 percent increase but this is usually considered a major ticket). If he gets a not-guilty verdict, he will be fine.

On insurance applications they always ask if your licence has been suspended. Technically, he can't answer 'no', but I can't begin to imagine what answering 'yes' to that question will do to his rates. Get your friend to do their research.

Also, you would have to ignore a lot of notices and warnings to get ot the point where your licence was suspended on the spot due to unpaid fines. Unless you changed your address and never bothered to notify MTO and there's a bunch of mail you haven't been getting.

Did he receive a driving while suspended ticket... or a notice of suspension?

This is the question that needs answered.

When he gets pulled over and the officer see's his license is supended, they will see if he has already been served the notice of suspension. If he hasn't, the officer will serve the notice. If he has been served already, officer will give him a ticket.

How does your driver's license get suspended for not paying parking tickets? If you don't pay your parking tickets, you end up paying them plus administrative fees when you renew your license plate sticker.

However, if you don't pay a traffic ticket after you've been convicted, the MTO "immediately" suspends your driver's license.

It's my friend. Parking tickets can also leads to suspension if not paid. He end up paying 250 for 2 tickets, they were from 2012.

this is news to me, i've seen efforts from municipalities and the province to recover "traffic fines (ie: speeding, insurance card, broken tailights)" through property taxes, license plate renewals.

But never, have i heard of someone getting their DL suspended for unpaid municipal parking tickets. Especially for a parking ticket he received "last year", which theoretically might not even show up on his license plate renewal depending on how he handled it (ie: filed it for trial).

maybe he's forgotten or lost these tickets, and is unsure whether they were traffic or parking related. but forgetting to pay a 2012 parking ticket, should not land you a 2013 drivers license suspension.

i can be wrong, maybe someone can someone point to an article or a piece of legislation that allows them to suspend your dl for unpaid parking tickets?

He lost the tickets and forgot to pay, end up suspended license. I am 100 percent positive parking ticket leads you to suspension, and traffic ticket will even leads to you a warrant from the police, not just suspended license.

Not sure how this leads to a suspension...2 years in a row now i end up paying my parking tickets off when renewing my sticker..which is nearly a full year after getting them...they just make me pay them before i can get a sticker and thats it. Maybe it was a major parking ticket? like parking in a fire route or in front of a fire hydrant or handicap spot

yes one was associated with fire hydrant

I'm 100 percent positive you're 100 percent incorrect. Especially on the warrant part. Do you even know what a warrant is?? It puts into effect your ARREST. No cops are going to go around arresting you because of some traffic tickets, unless it was a criminal charge in which case he probably wouldn't even have his license in the first place and criminal charges are not something you just forget about...

This man speaks the truth! Parking = registration difficulties (even trying to register another vehicle, old fines will appear). Traffic tickets lead to administrative suspensions, which you are not notified of. Either an officer will notify you, or an abstract search will tell you.

Maybe in order to help him "forget" to pay his parking tickets, he conveniently "forgot" to register his vehicle?
