Where to certify a older bike in GTA

Maybe the reason was explained to the customer. Maybe it made sense to the customer. He doesn't say. But it does make sense. There's a big difference between money no object timeless classic motorcycle and an old junker scraping to get by first bike. Would you fix a $20 toaster?
toaster lmfao.

It likely has to do with the scarcity of parts available for older machines.
If it needs something and gets tied up sitting in the shop wasting space and waiting for parts nobody wins.
Its not a matter of competency, vehicle fitness certification has little or nothing to do with year.

Doing a safety doesn't require any parts. You simply inspect. If it fails you don't have to work on it. Tell them why it failed, they can either fix it themselves or find someone else to fix it, and bring it back in for certification.

This is true. Why are they throwing business away? What do they know that we don't?

This reminds me of CWW refusing my '91 Yamaha Radian... ten years ago

See that's the issue, its not always about making a few bucks. Its about the end result. If you come in expecting to pay $400, then find out this price going to triple, but the work has already started and you have no choice but to continue you can feel trapped by the dealership. This can ultimately create major issues, these customers can start demanding free service, saying the shop caused the damage. You can imagine this happens frequently if dealerships have implemented this age restriction.

A cert cannot be half assed. Its for the riders safety after all. I have an issue with shops certifying bikes ( no matter the age ) "site unseen".

Don't you think charging the customer 1 hr labor to say, "hey it needs x-amount of work, but were not going to offer this to you" is a bit of a slap in the face? I am sure when the OP asked about the cert, SC would have recommended an alternative shop that services older bikes.

An old bike I can guarantee 9/10 times it will need something to pass.

Not in my opinion. You're paying for an inspection. It's a little annoying but not "a slap to the face". Then again, I've paid for safeties on tons of cars I was thinking of buying and then didn't so paying for a safety and not getting any work done is normal for me.

I also own a unique bike and car and have gotten used to shops either refusing or being unable to repair them. I usually go to a guy in my home town, almost an hour away, simply because he'll work on anything (no hassles with refusal) and his hourly rates are pretty cheap.

Thanks, but I think of Mississauga being outside of the Greater Toronto Area.....

Then you clearly have not played GTAM photo tag ;) Mississauga isn't even on the edge of the "GTA":

I thought Mississauga was in the GTA but that map is even bigger than I would've thought. My thoughts were more like this:

Maybe I would've thrown Burlington in there but probably not. Today I learned I am wrong. Thanks for the graphic.

Hamilton just missed the cut. Damn.

Who's doing the land grab? It's the Liberals, isn't it?

Before I lived in Toronto I used to joke with my gf (from Ajax) that anywhere from Hamilton out to about Oshawa is basically Toronto including Markham. Basically if you can look at it from Google Earth and it looks like one huge city, it might as well be. Then I booked her a spa day in Markham after she moved to Toronto and it took over an hour to get to the place from where she was living. She said, "Still think this is Toronto?" after I was bitching about how long it was taking. Then I had to go back to pick her up.
