What are you reading?

Active imaginations 🙄

Orwell was alluding to Churchill's cover up of the Enigma machines role in the war as he could not write openly about it due to the Secrets Act. He was an insider at the time and the secrecy about it was draconian. The actual story was not revealed until 1994 - read Body Guard if Lies - when the archives were opened

Comparing that to CBC is ludicrous. :coffee:
Believing that the CBC is an unbiased, reliable news source while receiving well over $1 Billion a year from the current Liberal government is even more ludicrous.I don’t think it was much of a stretch to compare the two.

All that Lieutenant Frerking at Strongpoint WN62 on Omaha Beach could do was mumble to himself in disbelief; what he could see was impossible, as there were not that many ships in the entire world. Meanwhile, during 0335–0515 hrs, 1,912 Allied strategic and medium bombers had attacked enemy positions along the Normandy coast and the adjacent hinterland.

Outside his normal venue but so far very intriguing. Some of the "events" are extremely head scratching

Tigers Between Empires
A modern success story rescuing Siberian tigers from the brink of extinction.
Very engaging and long ranging…a few heart stoppers too.
The geo-political world then was better than now.

Just got it today..."I`ll Be Gone In The Dark", one woman`s obsessive search for the Golden State Killer, by Michelle McNamara. She died suddenly in 2016 from unknown heart issues and an accidental OD. A couple other true crime writers and her husband, Patton Oswalt finished it. Former cop, Joe DeAngelo plead guilty to 13 murders and 50 rapes and over 100 burglaries, and is suspected of much more. I saw a multi part HBO series on this crime as well as a bunch of other TV series crime coverage.

Last summer I went to France to visit my great grandfathers grave who died on May 28th 1916 - outside of Arras. First part of he trip was visiting the places he fought with the 1st Btn East Surrey Reg. (Ypres, Mons, LaCateau, on the Marne and on the Aisne). it was very humbling.

The second part of our trip we sent to Normandy and did a motorcycle tour on a side car with my wife. We visited Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, & Sword. I stood on a German machine gun nest looking down at the beach and I had goose bumps - Apparently that of Heinrich Severloh who claimed to have fired approximately 13,500 rounds from an MG 42, along with a further 400 rounds from two Karabiner 98k rifles during the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach. These poor guys did not stand a chance.IMG_7689.jpgIMG_7837.jpg
