Westport Loop second attempt

See previous post for map.
18 to 20 degrees, high cloud & light wind.
On the road by 12:30 and home by 4:00.
Typical spring riding where you had to keep an eye for gravel & sand in the corners,
The Opinicon Road west of Chaffeys Lock has patching on sides of the pavement.
The first boat trailer that cuts the corner sucks all the fresh aspault back into the middle of the lane.
Stopped at the "Opinicon" for coffee and in-house made ice cream.
Just about all the motorcycles I seen where Harleys.
Where are all the sport bikes on the twisty roads.
Maybe they are only owned by young people who still have to work for a living.

Thanks for the ice cream tip - will have to stop in there one of these days for a taste after riding one of the better roads in the province.

One of the local women says the Rhubarb Ginger ice cream is to die for.

Planning to do some more exploring that way in the next week or so. Just a heads up from a riding friend in that area that CR4/5/15 around Tamworth is under construction now for a bit and is all torn up.

Looks nice with the water along the road ... searched Opinicon Rd and got this link ... don't recall coming across this website.

Have family in Westport and it’s a great place to hang. Always in the cage when we go and always tell myself I need to ride up there. Truth be told, the family likes to party and my liver takes a beating so, if I go on the bike, I have to make sure they left town before I arrive.

The roads and scenery is fantastic. If you stay in Westport, The Cove Inn is quaint and clean and typically has live music during the evenings.

Thanks for the post! I never stop for pics.

Looks like a nice area to ride. When we were kids, friends had a cottage on Sharbot Lake that we went to for a couple of summers. Wonderful times. The map of Opinicon Road reminds me of Southwood Road

one of my favourite riding areas, too bad it is long way from GTA so only do it on over-nites now combined with Calabogie area.
Have you tried Flat Rd, Kennelly Mountain Rd, Fergusen Lake Rd from Dacre down to CR508 west of Calabogie.
It is paved all the way now.
I love Ginger and Rhubarb, so now I'm really interested.
Since you are in the area you should check out this ferry
It looks like it is paved to the ferry but I suspect dirt roads on Scott Island.

It is only an hour drive from Bath to Westport so need of accomadations unless I take the 6 hour scenic route.

Except for the fancy yellow line down the middle!

Thanks, good to hear they are all paved now, will check them out next time. I also like 16 South Levant, 15 Mountain road and 5th lake road
South Lavant is my favourite road right now in the province. Especially after they repaved so much of it.

I was thinking for those out of towers from the GTA or myself (Niagara) that make the trip. 😉

Even the locals don’t mind a stop in for a cold one and some music at The Cove. Food is pretty good too!

As long as you realize paved is a relative term.
No Yellow line, No White lines and if two big trucks meet they may rub door handles
but the surface is asphalt.

South Lavant is still torn up and I would avoid it unless you’re on a ADV. I rode it today and about 5km is pretty loose gravel and another 5km of hardback dirt. 511 to Lavant itself is great and there’s a beautiful beach area at Lavant if you’ve never stopped there.
Opinicon is pretty patchy with new tamped down asphalt areas but still very enjoyable.
I did 750km today around Tweed/Ganonoque/Westport/Oompah etc and perfect weather.
Edit - And for the ADV crew there’s a great trail that goes from Oompah to Calabogie so you can do a fun mix of twisties and trails all in the same loop/area.

Most sport bike riders nowadays are at the local Tim Hortons or weekday bike meets posing for the camera. I haven't met a sportbike rider on the street that knew what they were doing in years.
