We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

One of my cabinet shop customers has suggested making a “ safe” from ” MDF , installing safe style hardware and spraying a coating like a textured automotive box liner , then color coating that . I don’t care it would have no fire rating , but it could be as big as I want in to fit the space I have . And not cost two K

I've got some extra S&G keypad locks for a great price if you are going that route.

My fear isn’t guns being stolen or miss used , mine would be an officer investigating a break in while I’m not here and coming up with some silly storage charge for gun powder sitting on a work bench in a locked room and defending a firearms/ explosives charge . Putting my Nexus renewal or International travel at risk over something so silly keeps me up at night .

MDF gun safe!? I thought these things had to be very securely stored...not only to keep out of family members' hands...but thieves also.

Doesn't seem like MDF would meet that threshold.

The typical metal gun locker can be easily opened. As stated, meeting the threshold for storage is pretty easy. You could easily build a MDF storage area that meets rules and easily out-performs the CT $250 12-gun locker.
Unless it's vault-style or safe-style it's more of a visual deterrent and to keep little hands away.

The wording is really loose. A wooden display case with windows complies.

It sounds like he is evicting supplies and ammo to another secure container. Guns stay in the real safe, supplies go in the wood safe.

The problem with storage regulations is that nothing is clearly defined.
One of the lines reads something like.. "not easily broken into".
Wtf does that mean...?

One could argue that their house is a container "not easily broken into" and just have their guns anywhere...

Also... there are differences in the regs depending on what classification of firearms is being stored... oh, and then... define "storage"..

The regs are a mess...

Ive got stories that would blow your mind around this issue lol

If you park at McDonalds and a shotgun is locked in your truck , acccording to the law as written , it is securely stored. Now how an Officer interprets that law is another thing.

Funny if you look at the hundred cars/trucks parked at a gun club vs. cars and trucks at Bass Pro Shop. Gun club serious shooters will not have a Browning deer logo on the window, no gun related bumper stickers , they bring NO attention to the fact they may own or transport guns. No need give low life temptation.

To ease my mind a little I keep my reloading stuff in explosives/flammables bags from Amazon.

I got a chance to look at/handle half a truckload of prohibited firearms (mostly full-auto). Guy had a crew cab truck with the rear seats folded up and the entire back half of the cab up to the roof was firearms in cases. No browning stickers.

Riiight... He may decide the gun is being "transported".
Not "stored".
Different regs.
Different again, or not depending on the mode of transport...

I'll say that most gun owners I know go overboard when it comes to storage/transport of their firearms.

I'll be walking through YYZ with at least two firearms heading towards baggage check in and no one would guess
