Waterproof glove suggestions?

So my monthly commute of 2,000kms is about to start and I see the first week has two rainy days (knowing weather.ca, that means it'll rain everyday -__-).

Anyone have some waterproof glove suggestions? Price doesn't matter, I just want to know that they work and keep you dry (not necessarily warm).
 
Klim element goretex long. But they will set you back $250...unless you get them on the 50% off deal we just had :)
 
I bought a pair of Olympia 2 in 1 goretex gloves about 5 yrs ago.(i think they were about $80)The fingertips leak a bit in a heavy downpour this yr.But they are still pretty good.Usually gloves don't last more than 2 yrs with me.

YUP - waterproof gloves on a mcycle seem an oxymoron as do boots and "breathable" waterproof jackets and pants. They are all decent in light rain....when it comes down and it pools in your crotch and around your neck......well...
Those disposable medical gloves work fine as under gloves ...you'll be dry ...but feel soaked if that helps at all.

Over boots, over gloves, rain jackets and pants in Polyprop will keep the water out and in unfortunately, so you can end up soaked from the inside out which in cool weather can get you to hypothermia right quick.

It's one reason in the tropics I rarely bother with the rain jacket as I'd rather get soaked and then dry off quick in the mesh than end up soggy from the inside.
I just ride in armor mesh gloves in warm weather - they dry quick.

In Ontario ..a second set of gloves for when it stops and heated grips are nice.

I've settled on these and they were decent even in January this year.

No armor tho and while they SAY waterproof and breathable.....take it with a grain of salt. I found I did not need the down liners and the one reviewer found the same.

But these WILL keep your hands dry...

If they are gortex and they leak gortex will replace them I believe under the no leak guarantee.
 
I'd want to see some proof on that claim. Looked it up and they will cover if defective - the real life reality tho is sort of covered by the numerous caveats.

Motorcycle gear takes a lot of abuse and just stuffing a gortex overjacket into a pannier or top case is likely to cause wear over time from abrasion.

Wetting of a fabric can change with conditions. Many times materials may be hydrophobic and water beads on the surface. After continuous exposure portions of the material may wet out. Wetting out means that water contacts and is bound to the fabric fibers, rather than air. The wetting out will occur more rapidly if the material is dirty or contaminated with a surfactant (e.g., soap or detergent). At this point the barrier to water transport through the pores in the fabric is removed. Membrane materials are also subject to wetting out at some locations. When membranes used in clothing wet out they are capable of transmitting liquid water (leaking). The hydrophobic properties are generally returned if the material is allowed to thoroughly dry and cleaned to remove any surface active agents.
Ironically, most modern rain gear works best when clean and dry.

Part of the reason is the way water pools when riding and also the build up of gunk from the road.
It's not a nice refreshing straight down rain that beads and rolls off we are dealing with at 100 kph and as it mentioned continuous exposure can mean it wetting out. It's got road spray, salt, oil you name it
That's one reason under shells that are waterproof may often be better so it keeps you dry, a certain breathability but not so subject to wetting out as external.

OP - if you commute is not long then just get a pair of actually waterproof overgloves and in warm weather a fast drying mesh glove from the MX crowd has armor and fast dry.

As from my other thread that got buried, I have all the gear now except for the gloves. Gonna head down to rider's choice and see the selection. And MacDoc, my commute is 100km/day lol

On really warm days I may just go full douchevest (the MX thing by Dainese) or something with a rain jacket.

My commute is 160 a day.

Having two pairs of gloves works best for me.
 
BMW ProSummer glove - I had them for God knows how long, they have decent armor and I use them all the time. Worth every penny - Gore-Tex for waterproof, lightweight, comfortable, etc.
 
I use a pair of Held Phantom Tex gloves. Basically a race glove with gortex. Good protection and in the 3 years I've owned them completely water proof.

There is no such thing as a pair of sustained waterproof motorcycle gloves for anything over 5 minutes of heavy rain. I wear some RevIt ones which are very good for cold weather riding and light rain. According to a few surveys the best ones are richa cold protect gtx. I will be purchasing a pair of these to try out. Don't expect to find them locally however.

My bmw pro summer went through many heavy rainfalls - of course outside gets wet but my hands always remain dry and comfy. They do have downside of all Gore-Tex gear - drying time. But as long as my hands are comfy - I don't really care how long does it take for outside shell to dry out

Personally in the summer I don't care if my hands get wet I prefer perforated gloves because they will dry quickly. I'm refering more to winter gloves, and I think the poster is too although I may be wrong there, which are good from 0 to 10 degrees. In all my years of riding I find they all leak eventually and let the water in with heavy sustained rain. With winter gortex gloves its a challenge between warmth, thickness and feel and waterproof performance. I would say a more accurate comment is motorcycle gloves are water resistant. If you can put your glove in a bucket of water for over 5 minutes and your hand is dry now I would say that is water proof but that is me. I challenge you to try it out tonight :-). I may check out the ProWinter version of the glove you are refering too but I have a feeling the Richa may be better. I will check out the local BMW dealership.

I think you saw my gloves - I showed it to you last year. Definitely check dealership and ask when the next sale is. I'll try bucket thinny on the weekend and will report back. Last heavy rain I remember was sometime last year - you were still riding 1198 and we left about the same time, took different exits to QEW and you passed me close to DVP. It was pouring and ride home took me about 2 hrs. My hands were dry when I got home :-)
