Waiting to make a left and got hit

Can't help but share this story as I witnessed it right infront of me.

Saturday July 30th....around 2pm. I'm waiting in a crapload of traffic on Lakeshore...waiting to turn left onto Windermere. I'm in my cage with family waiting patiently while everyone is trying to squirm into the 1 left turn lane.

I notice a Black SV650 looking bike with matching topcase waiting at the light on Windermere to turn left onto lakeshore. Rider has black helmet...T-shirt. Didn't see much else.

Suddenly a white Buick Regal pulls a left infront of the oncoming traffic and a Black SUV T-bones it hard. The Buick spins out and hits the rider. All the pedestrains on the sidewalk get showered with glass and debris.

Rider got up and looked ok. ****** deal seeing the bike on it's side with fluid coming out of it. A large crowd gathered so when I did manage to drive by I couldn't see the rider...plus I had to fight not to hit other cars since people were turning left from the middle lane.

It's quite dissapoining to see how a cager who:
a) doesn't know how to obey traffic signals
b) thinks they deserve to go infront of everyone
...can cause pain and injury to pedestrians and a rider who's just waiting for the light to change.

If the rider is on here...hope you're ok buddy.
Maybe next time you'll wear some more gear. I know it's hot, but you never know when a Buick will pirouette into you. ;)

You saw all of that and didn't stop?

Damn pirouetting Buicks...

But I hear ya. When I was riding in my buddy's vehicle (riding shotgun) some idiot ran a red and t-boned us from the right (we were going straight). We did a 180 and she slid sideways onto sidewalk and stopped where people normally wait to cross the intersection. It was downtown and by the University, so it was pure luck that nobody was standing on the corner at the time.

You saw all of that and didn't stop?

I thought it was implied, but I'll clarify just in case.

We were in heavy heavy traffic...I didn't even manage to make my left turn until about the same time the Fire Dept showed. I was on hold with Toronto Police for 5 minutes before giving up hoping to give them my name as a witness. It was very busy....there was lots of pedestrians helping out, and a Tow Truck was around the corner and he was there in seconds.

Lots of help and I was in the middle of traffic....nothing I could do.

hmm.... a leather jacket will save you from road rash........not a Buick, its just leather it doesn't make you invincible

no it doesent make you invincible, but it helps when said buick sends you flying and you slide on hot asphalt. You will be badly brused/broken

but thats better then even more brused and broken, and a nasty rash to boot!

gear=better every time wether its a 1km/hr drop or a 200mph high side

yee a little road rash is the least of my concerns when there is a Buick coming at me....

If you ride a motorcycle without the proper gear, you main concern should be lack of brains in your skull. You and every other squid out there needs to have your heads examined. Idiots.

I've done pretty good for myself with the "lack of brains in my skull" and who d'**** do you think you are calling me an idiot? you sound real tough behind that keyboard, you are probably a 40 year old pu$$y sitting in your parents basement preaching about how people should be wearing gear, because it will save you when that Buick runs your ***** over, let me guess you probably wear your one piece suit, gloves, and boot when ever you go out to get a pack of smokes.
If you think that your 1pc leather suit will save you in a collision you are an idiot, all it will do is keep your skin looking pretty for the funeral.

before you dismiss road rash, I have witnessed several examples. Not a pretty sight. Just a friendly reminder that road rash is essentially the same as a burn, and burns can cause major issues. The following was posted on HDforums.com a few days ago.

http://www.hdforums.com/forum/general-harley-davidson-chat/668643-road-rash-kills.html?ref=ccm-ext-0

"...Today I heard of a death related to a motorcycle accident with a spin I had never heard before. A rider went down and must have received some considerable "road rash" or "concrete burn" as his family called it. Ostensibly because of lack of insurance or maybe just a dislike of hospitals he did not seek treatment and decided to just tough it out. The road rash became infected and he developed sepsis through out his body. He was in Johns Hopkins for three weeks under antibiotics but his system couldn't shake the infection. He died some four weeks after an accident he otherwise walked away from."

If this guy had asked for medical attention he might have been ok, in any case I believe in gear...

Wear what you want, I don't give a crap. And BTW, I'm 50 and live in my parents basement and I'm a pu$$y (or at least I get a lot of it, not sure quite where you're going with this as I don't have any idea what courage or felines has to do with wearing appropriate gear for the activity).

It ain't just the leather protecting you from the slide. Its the armour and leather protecting you from the impact as well. I had a get off last year at about 100 kph and landed on my head and shoulder. Walked away with a very small bruise on my shoulder. Without an armoured jacket I'd have been in the hospital for a while. Again, I don't care what you wear but don't disregard the protection of armoured leathers for getting hit by a Buick.

Go boating without a PFD, go rock climbing with no helmet, play hockey with no jock and go ride a motorcycle with no gear. Who cares? But don't get your knickers in such a knot and try to belittle a guy by calling him 40. LOL, it really isn't an insult.

Tired of the ****ing atgatt Nazis - go nag the kids on the merry go -round...
and this is crap.....

pdf is mandatory like a helmet - maybe you better wear your FF too incase you get broadsided by an oil tanker - will prevent barnacle rash.

hockey is a contact support unlike mcycling unless you count people like you and MW who seem to expect to contact the pavement on most rides.

and rock climbing it's to protect from climbers kicking rocks from above....better add in full leathers there too.........

If you can't keep your bike upright in every day riding - give it up.
90% of the people I saw today were wearing appropriate gear.....light clothes and a helmet on back roads on a hot summer day.

Justd what they, and I enjoy and feel perfectly safe and comfortable doing and have safely and comfortably for decades.

Appropriate gear not a roboman suit.

You wanna cook? - be my guest.....not my cuppa or thousands of others in casual riding situations.

Buddy, as I said, wear what you want I don't give a crap. Why have you got such a thin skin about this? I'm not trying to get you to wear gear. I don't care. Just don't try to tell anyone that it doesn't increase safety. That's stupid. Although, considering this is from a guy that thinks its okay to take the padding out of a helmet, I really shouldn't be surprised by your foolishness but I am surprised at your sensitivity. Chill out.

I did, they put a bunch of electrodes on it and made all kinds of tests, it seems that my head is ok, doctor certified so I will continue riding squid since you are not my mother

Is it the water in Mississauga?

Slowbird: dude...can't believe that!! Hope the rider is ok, but know what you mean by heavy traffic. When there's that much chaos and enough witnesses to go around, the best thing you can do is honestly move out of the way, as much as you wanna help, sometimes it causes more grief for everyone.

nothing sucks more than sitting there, minding your business, and some other ****** decides to ruin your day by balleting their buick into you...i've called before as a witness to an incident, i feel the 911 people just don't give a damn sometimes, sad really...but if the rider is on here and sees the thread, at least he can deal with the op directly and not waste their time going through the popo...
