USB accessory connection

I did some searching within the forum because I know I remember reading about this somewhere, however, I did not find anything substantial to help me connect one of these things. If you didn't get it by the subject title, I am looking for a usb connection to mount on my bike to charge my phone and power other accessories, I am clueless about this stuff, if anyone has access to a write up or something I'd very much appreciate that.

Also, I found this online - http://www.windingroads.co.uk/shop/...usb-din-plug/4acacac0037a7dd1dbe135c40335cb1b - Thoughts?

Thanks!

You can hook it up directly to the battery. I just chose to run mine to a relay that I wired up so there is no power running to it when they key is off since mine is just a 12 volt socket and I have a 12v to usb connector plugged into it at all times.

was a recent thread, similar for 12V here:

I use this for a 12v to USB connection, total set up weas maybe $50.00

If you go the direct to battery route, it's very simple. I think for me it took all of 10min including removing the seat, and running the wiring to where I wanted it. The relay is the better option as it'll stop drawing power once you turn the bike off.

Yep, the Optimate 100, available at Dual Sport PLus, GP, Royal, and just about any other bike shop, about $30.00. Plug it into your Battery Tender pigtail, quick and easy, neat and tidy, discreet. Tie it off with a cheap velcro strap:

I use a 12V socket/cigarette lighter with a dual USB charger. Around $20 including charger. Much better route imo, as you can run 2 USB items off one plug and run a 2amp USB charger as most are only 1amp.

I did the direct to battery approach as I like to leave stuff charging without having to turn the bike on. Makes it easy to charge your phone or GoPro while having lunch on a long ride.

Make sure you run an inline fuse if running direct off the battery.

It may have been said but I'm too lazy to read: You can't search USB (or any other 3 letter word) using the GTAM search, it'll give you no results (but won't tell you why). You can search ANY site with google, try typing this in the search box:

site:gtamotorcycle.com USB

Enjoy.

yes you can.... You can type USB*
but for some reason it only comes up with SOME results...

Princess Auto has these. Waterproof, I think around 5 bucks. I use 2 of them under the seat. Check your closest store for inventory, the one in Newmarket had them for sure 2 months ago. Mine is hooked up to a fusebox, if you run direct to battery dont forget to fuse it. http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Miscellaneous-Automotive/Weather-Proof-USB-Power-Outlet/8405235.p
They have been discontinued for quite some time, so it's hit and miss trying to find them. They are also super low power (0.5 amps or less), so may not charge some phones and GPS devices. When I had my GPS plugged into it the battery would very slowly drain, like it couldn't keep up. I put in a dual 2.1 amp waterproof one instead, works damn sweet.
