CTVNews.ca Staff Sidney Crosby is experiencing "significant improvements" in his recovery from concussion and is expected to return to hockey at some point, but there is so far no timeline on that goal, his doctor said Wednesday.
Dr. Michael Collins, who has been treating the Pittsburg Penguins star since January, attended a news conference with Crosby, the first since the injury occurred.
"I anticipate Sid returning to hockey and playing hockey in the future... but before Sid goes back to play we're going to make sure he's 100 per cent recovered, no ifs ands or buts about it," Collins said.

Coming through on CP24...No timeline on his return.

Bets on him not EVER returning? I'd put it at 50/50.

Wonder if the league will pay attention now that it's not some nobody scrapper, but a marquee player.

No Offence he is a great hockey player, but he played like he should be treated like gretzky and no one should be aloud to hit him.
Everytime he got checked clean or not he would look at the ref's to give them a penalty.
I loved watching him play but was embarassed for him at how much he complains.
But I do hope he makes a speedy (from now) and full recovery.

"Sidney Crosby is experiencing "significant improvements"" - Gary Bettman just cancelled his Viagra order, no longer required.

I don't think concussions will ever disappear whether the league is paying attention or not. Maybe if they make it a non-contact sport.. Interesting, I read that the OHL is enforcing a soft-cap policy for shoulder pads and elbow pads this year..something that's been in the CHL rule book for as long as I can remember..but has never been enforced. Let's see if that finally propagates to the NHL..

can't stand crosby, way too much of this

Back when I played hockey in pittsburg as a kid (no helmets back then), it was about skill, speed, fun, never had fights

moved to Canada and over the years the game changed, fighting was allowed by the coaches, not the parents

fighting wasn't accepted anywhere.....but on the rink it became regular....

I scored in a game and one guy on the other side came over and choped my head with his stick

many stiches later, i asked what was the punishment for the other team was...he replied, nothing, thats Hockey

I left that sport

hockey, football, soccer....all changing for the worst

I'd agree it's not going to go away....but I don't think we can argue that the problem has gotten worse over the recent hockey era.

Whether that is because of more dirty European players (as Grapes would have us believe), the fact that the problem has always existed and is just getting more publicity now...or the very real fact that the players today are bigger, faster and stronger than any players in history....who knows?

I'm a huge Crosby hater....just would like to see the whole concussion thing put to rest. You don't hear about other sports with significant contact, e.g. football, rugby, having similar problems.

The NFL is realizing that their players have been suffering brain damage for decades and it's causing early deaths in players. It's a serious problem in the NFL. I think it's a combination of all the things you said..bigger players, faster game, incorrect interpretation of the rules, inappropriate equipment, better recognition of injuries.. I don't think the game is dirtier as some people like to think. I can remember reading stories about players tomahawking each other with their sticks back in the 40's. Elbows..fighting..the Broadstreet Bullies in the 70's.

I personally think they need to call Boarding as it's written in the rulebook. I think they need to eliminate hard-shell protective equipment as it's stated in the rulebook. And I think you have to hope they players learn a little respect. But if you allow open-ice hitting, no matter what, I think you'll still get concussions. Hopefully they can just lessen them to some degree.

who cares ?

i dont know anyone that changes the channel when they show the " years best hits " near the end of the season

if the players were afraid of injury, then they should be looking for other areas of work, ( though i doubt they might find one that pays multi-millions of dollars per year )

for those that dont like it, watch golf
