trying to sell

so, an interested buyer wants his mechanic to take a look at my bike.
The problem is, this guy hasn't been very commiting in the past.
I am not sure if I want to take it there, since it is not that close to where I live.
By the way, what will the mechanic check? I am confident there will be no or minor issues.
What should I do?

Has he come down to see the bike in person? Or have all of the dealings so far been over the phone or email?

he did come to look at it, and his friend even test drove it.

i am concerned the mechanic might do something, and then get me to sell at lower price.
(yea, i guess the more i write, the more i don't trust him now)

If you're worried about that then be there and watch the mechanic as he looks it over. I'd personally want some compensation since the mechanic isn't near by as you say.

Agreed - figure out what your time is worth and tell him you'll do it for $x/hour.

If its his mechanic he may find things and be very picky and try to bring your price down. If your bike is good and no issues hold your ground on price and don't let his mech try to beat u down to a lower price than you're comfortable selling at.

Do you have a friend that knows about bikes and is willing to go along? Maybe offer a neutral mechanic closer to you to take a look over?

If it was me i'd tell him that i'd take it when you guys agree on a price and he gives you a deposit. If any issues arise that i wasn't forthcoming about i'd refund the deposit, otherwise the bike is his.

What is a mechanic going to find wrong with a one year old bike? Tell this buyer to blow. He wants the mechanic to nitpick for leverage against you.

So a one year old bike cannot have any problems?

Give a doofus a motorcycle for 35 minutes and they'll cause more damage than anyone on here would care to fix.

your customer is being demanding, but the question becomes how badly do you want to sell the bike, and how badly to this guy.

The only think wrong with a 1 yr old bike would be visual. I highly doubt anything mechanical would be wrong. Op,Tell this guy to screw off. It's really not worth the hassle.

Sell the bike as-is or give the buyer a conditional warranty such as "if the bike has serious engine damage/electrical failures seller agrees to refund cash and take posession of bike back". I bought one of my bikes like this and the seller agreed to take the bike back if it had any serious defects but then again it was taken to a major bike shop nearby and the seller worked for the RCMP.

Edit: If you do this you need to make it time conditional or conditional on what is found during the inspection.

I dont know if i would be making these kind of arangements it could get messy.

Plenty of good advice!
If the price is agreed on and buyer is just being cautious - why not ?
