Heading up to Bala tomorrow from Ajax. Anyone have input on which roads to take up and back? Whats the condition of Southwood Rd these days?

Go the long way - ride up to the 518 and work your way south.

Muskoka 38 from the 400 to Bala is also superb. Muskoka 32 to Go Home Lake has been resurfaced, but is sand covered. It is a nice roller coaster ride if you proceed with reasonable caution.
Was on it sunday, no sand. First corner as you get off the highway has a bit of kicked up gravel then its smooth sailing. Brackenrig road is also now paved and is a good ride also, getting to the cottage is now all fun after you're off the 400.
Thanks folks. 38 was excellent as usual as was Southwood Rd (still too much sand though on the second half). Took nice backroads from the bottom of 13 home and had a great ride.

Was on Southwood also today. Could be a really nice twistie road, but all that sand just kills the ride. Sucks having to ride with caution in your head.

I don't understand upper big chute. Unless you're going 200+ it's really nothing special...
