Transitions

One can learn to drive a car at 1 KPH then progress to 2 KPH as one feels comfortable. With a bike one has to transition through the single digit speeds to where the bike is moving fast enough to be stable.

Paved roads are easy and gravel is OK if you learn to be careful with your inputs. However transitioning from paved to gravel or vice versa can be an invitation to dump city, particularly if the transition is in a turn, on a hill, at night, in the rain, with lots of people watching.

What's your technique? Let it rip and hope momentum carries you through or do a walkie?

I thought this was going to be about Transitions visors...

What the **** type of a stupid thread is this?? You're an old timer too. Yes, let it rip don't get scared and hit the brakes, the gyroscopic effect will keep you upright. If you're gonna go down, you're gonna go down. Just hope you got some good gear on.

Lolz

I don't think I've laughed this much in a while

I too thought this was gonna be about the visors. (which I have and love btw)

One night I was meeting friends and I exited the 407 onto Mavis. Light was green so I made the left and out of nowhere the bike momentarily slid and caught itself (there was some sand or something in the intersection). I literally had no time to react and I think that's what saved it....cause the bike kept doing it's thing with no input from me.

My $0.02

I personally take a "here, hold my beer, watch this" type of approach

Yes transitions by John Digweed is one of the golden sets. Say hi if you hear me play this set in my car

I thought we'd all gone liberal, and you were inquiring the proper process to transition from one gender to another ...

As for gravel, as straight and steady as possible is my advice - now gravel on top of pavement in the middle of a turn, well that's hang-on and brace for impact!

Like Keith Code says:

"take control by doing nothing."

Take control by doing nothing.

Take control by doing nothing.

lol, I wasn't even trying to be funny but glad someone got a kick out of it. This thread already started off bad and then proceeded down the shitter real quick. We should actually have that feature on the forum, a little toilet icon in the corner for stupid threads and posts. If a high enough percentage of people click that icon relative to the number of views it should be automatically sent down the shitter and disposed of...probably makes the mods lives a lot easier too.

Great idea! Would benefit people who view the thread first, they have the option to throw the thread down the shitter being 100% of the views of the post. ;)

I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt and just say something simple:

If you are going from asphalt to gravel (or even a bit of sand) at a decent lean angle with speed, you will probably crash even if you "take control by doing nothing". But for the love of all that is holy, do not jab the front brakes like your life depends on it (you will get ejected).

Source: I've done it before...I think I read somewhere LoneRonin did something similar too?
