Thought I'd share my rate...

I'm 30, living in Mississauga. I've had my G license for over 10 years now. I've had my share of speeding tickets in the past, but none currently on my record. I have a minor violation for an improper turn from last year. I got my M1 2 weeks ago and never had bike insurance before.

I bought a 2011 Ninja 250R SE last week. My quote from Riders Choice was $1041 and I was going to go with them until someone told me I should check with State Farm. I have gotten auto quotes from them before and they were well over $3000/yr, so I didn't have high hopes. I called them up and got a quote for $761. I went in and got the coverage right away. They needed me to bring the bike in for an inspection and photos.

If anyone wants to know the agent I used, I'd be more than willing to share.

EDIT: By the way, that's full coverage with a $1000 deductable.

If you do less than $1000 damage on your bike, you wouldn't claim it anyways would you?

Probably not, fastar. If I did $1000 damage to my 97 Accord I wouldn't claim it either. LOL
With the bike being only about $5000, the insurance is really only for a total loss or theft. If I drop it I'm not telling anyone! :P haha

That gives me hopes. I just got an M1 and am looking to get that exact same bike. I'm a 28 year old with a G license for 9 years; zero incidents, but none of the online quotes even bother to take that into account. Kanetix quoted me $2300+ and Meloche Monnex (even with my professional association, multiple vehicle and home discount) was still $1400+. That just seems far too absurd to be practical. I'm definitely calling SF to get a quote.

Sweet, they quoted me $800 a year, and said that getting an M2 and taking a safety course wouldn't even affect the rate. Strange but I'm not complaining too much, that'll save me over $600.

wicked! Glad to hear u saved some cash!

Not sure why you would have a lower deductible with a sport bike. My lower fairing is close $800 for one side alone, and there is no way I would make a claim for something that small.

Since parts are so expensive for bikes, there can be minimal damage that is easy to fix yourself so anything less than $1000 I will pay myself. If I'm not at fault then insurance will pay for it anyway.

i'm with SF as well (same bike and basically same insurance price as mentioned by the OP) and when i got my insurance in March they set me up with a deductible of $500 but for $3 a month i could have it reduced to $300... so that's what i did. I figured it was worth it in case my bike ever gets stollen (or worse... totalled).
