When the light comes on you shut off the engine immediately. Ideally the light never comes on, which is why they dont make it the most user friendly component.
Speaking of this. How come 250's dont have a digital display ? Theres only a temp light/oil pressure light. Isnt it to late if the temp light comes on or is it warning zone ?
You can always install a manual switch.
Chances are if you ride while the bike is overheating, you will damage your motor.
Next time, pull over and wait for it to cool down.
