The Weather Channel and Riding

I been downtown all day. Not a drop of rain. The weather channel shows 70% chance of thunder lightening and rain. Excepts for about 30 minutes , its been no clouds and all sun...

The weather channel seems to be completely off half the time.

Maybe they got a monkey that predicts the weather?

I tend to check it and use it as a "loose guide" as to what I may encounter. But they are off at the best of times...

Look outside.... all is clear, hop on bike and go! done!

Weather prediction isn't an exact science, hence why they deal in percentages, 70% chances of rain means 30% chance of absolutely nothing.

I prefer to look at the radar, and disregard the actual forecast most of the time.

The radar is completely clear over the GTA right now...

I use the radar too in conjunction with the Weather App.

MyRadar on IOS works wonders and 100% accurate

The weather network can't even tell you what the weather is at this very moment. Also, I don't know what 10% POP of 30mm of rain is supposed to mean. Weather forecasting is a joke especially these days the way the weather swings. I watch the radar but use it only to prepare myself for the next day. If the sun's shining I'm out riding.

The Weather Network is a joke. I'm from Ottawa. They're almost always wrong unless it's like sunny with 10% POP. Use it as a guide and look at the radar. Thanks Dayao12 for recommending MyRadar. It's awesome.

If any of us were wrong in our professions 8 out of 10 times, would we still be employed?

I check radar, use the 3-day forecast as a loose guideline as to my plans, and then play it by ear. If my dog is peppy and I don't see storm clouds I get on the bike.

I check the Weather Channel for temperature but use their radar map to make my own decision wether it will rain.

Use your instincts.

From what I understand, the forecast means there is a 70% chance that SOME precipitation will fall somewhere during the forecast time and area; so if you live in Scarborough and you read a forecast for the City of Toronto and there is a drop of rain in southern Etobicoke, the forecast is accurate.
