The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

I can’t imagine ever doing that either , but when he showed me the clouded dial I felt sick for him . His girlfriend picked him up a Bulova Marine Star yesterday as a “ wear this when doing boat work watch” , but I’d bet when he gets his Rolex back ( it’s his only watch) he will go back to digging ditches or whatever with it on .
He bought it with his first Air Canada paycheck on his first international flight as Captain twenty eight yrs ago . His purchase price new was less than the cost to fix it now .

I suspect he hasn't had it serviced in all that time and the stem O rings are worn out. There are two O rings around the stem, and a third on the cap. Even with the cap unscrewed, the other two provide a significant degree of waterproofness. Pilots usually opt for the GMT model, which is designed for keeping track of crossing time zones. GMT can come with jubilee bracelet; Submariner does not.
