taxes due on used bike

Hell I got my bike for 5k. The seller wrote a bos for 1500 and when my dad took it to the teller for me to transfer owner ship the guy dropped it to 1000 sold. Must have been a biker himself to be that cool.

If you can't afford the $500 bucks tax on a bike, you shouldn't ought to be purchasing one.

Big corporations are able to deduct millions of dollars in taxes legally with certain loopholes and the govt is not doing anything about it.

I doubt that taxes from used motorcycle purchases do any benefits in the overall government spendings.

I fully support all possible tax evasion via legal loopholes by normal consumers.

If government decides to close down coporate tax loopholes, then yes I'd feel fine paying full amount of taxes on a used bike.

Fully justified then.

It worked for Greece for years and years :d

I'm sure when the government needs money they'll be rethinking corporate tax breaks rather than come hunt me down for the couple of hundreds I would've paid extra. If they do come knocking on my door, I'll make sure to send the cheque by ferret so it takes just as long as it takes service ontario to mail me my license (btw they lost my license in the mail so I get to apply for a new one...).

Same old same old.. Just waiting for the spring "didn't wave", threads to start ;-)

Last receipts I wrote....

"As is.. buyer to repair" on all.

EVO MR with 20K kms - $10K
600 with 640 kms - $500
600 with 2700 kms - $1.52
600 with 7400kms - $1.52

Got called on the car. "Oh hello... yes I did... wow, he got it fixed up and on the road already... yep that was the price"

Hurts my feelings.

Correct. Tax have already been paid on new bike, why do we have to pay tax again on used bike? The government is obviously trying to rip us off.

They are using the system that we must pay tax when we buy goods, hence we need to pay for a used vehicle. If they can take control Kijiji sales, I am certain they will make us pay HST on those items as well.

What about the insurance company when you file a claim on a stolen bike that you paid taxes on for $1 at the MTO?

You bought a fixer upper that needed work and the owner just wanted it gone.

Go find me wholesale and retail value books for motorcycles....go ahead...i'm waiting...thats right, there are none. The value portion is left blank, just like on older cars.

The worst that will happen is you and the seller will receive a letter in the mail asking to confirm the amount the vehicle was sold for. Toss it in the trash as it was not registered mail and there is no proof you ever received it. I've gotten that letter twice, once when buying and once when selling...."what letters?"

You got one re: a bike you bought? That doesn't make sense as you've already indicated the price you bought it for when @ the MTO.

I've gotten those letters twice. Once for a quad and another for a bike. Thrown all out and never heard boo.

quad/bike you bought or sold? I've gotten them many times, but only ever for something I sold.

BTW, another way to save taxes *legally* is when you trade in your used motorcycle for another motorcycle either new or used from dealership. If the trade in amount is less than the purchase motorcycle, you only need to pay tax for the difference.
