Tax deduction / credit for training courses?

Assuming I take the M1 training/exit at a certified institution (AKA, one of the college options) does anyone have any recent experience clarifying if they issue the related T forms for tax purposes?

I found an old archived thread here from years ago suggesting that some people who took their courses at a college received such, and accordingly, was able to claim an education credit. Yes, there was some debate on the legitimacy of such but it seems the consensus (and experience, including one person who was questioned by the CRA, provided the receipt, and had it allowed) was that if you had the actual T form (I forget the actual form number) you'd be able to legally deduct it as an education amount.

Anyone have any recent experience? It would have to be someone that did their course at a college or recognized institution in 2014 or before. Obviously private or non recognized institutions wouldn't be providing a tax slip, but there was mixed reports on if recognized institutions now did or didn't currently.

I asked my accountant she wasn't sure about it even if it was taken at a college. Enrolled for a minimum of 3 weeks and education provided had to be post secondary in nature is her off the cuff answer. I'd ask a professional who works for you, or simply call revenue Canada.

You can try and claim it, but don't be upset if they disallow it on your taxes.

Contact the college where you did the training

Based on what I've read I'm unlikely to get the same answer twice, hence why I'm looking for been there done that experiences from others.

Haven't taken the course yet but strongly considering the last course of the year in 2 weeks at Centennial. This isn't a deciding factor in that, but still just curious more than anything.

Thanks meme. That was the gist of much of the previous thread I found, but there were others who (on the flipside) said "I got the form and got the deduction no problem", but again...it was a very old thread so looking for more current experiences. :)

I took the sheridan course a few years ago thinking the same...claim it on taxes as many stated.
Tax time... Sheridan does not issue form (T2202A?). to claim as expense.
Still a win with course , but not a write off

Unless the tax rules have changed recently. I claimed my M1 exist course costs from Centennial College on my 2009 taxes. I claimed it under the same section as Continuing Education costs - Tuition I believe. I didnt have any T slips from the College. Just my recipt. I would contact the course admin ahead of time to verify this is still allowed. I know that in my in class section of the course they advised us that one of the benefits of taking the course at an approved College was that you can write off the course in your taxes.

every year I take something off with the tuition expense deduction, as long as I have a receipt . Scuba classes, ski lessons , parachuting. Its never been declined yet. I claimed kids horseback riding lessons and ski classes when they were dependants. YMMV but I've done this for years. For any continuing education that met the minimum costs.

And this was the same sort of stories one way or the other that I read in the old thread. ;)

Crank, FWIW, "fitness" related things are indeed deductible/creditable - we too deduct horseback riding (to the $500 max, if only it wasn't many MANY times more than that, lol) as well since it's eligible for the fitness tax credit. Anything that could be classified as fitness related is eligible for that one...but not sure I'd try under the "tuition" portion however for fear of it getting the fuzzy eyeball.

Haven't ever even thought of trying to claim the last 3 riding/driving courses I took.
