Suggestions for an "around town" boot?

Both the S&S and JR boots are too short for what I was looking for. Add to that, I'm not sold on S&S gear as being any good; I've not heard/seen much good but seen/heard a bunch of bad, kind of like Icon. The JR boots otherwise have good reviews. Saw a pair yesterday at the Toronto show and they seem like a good option, if the height is OK for you. The Indian boots look good, but appear to me to be more of a fashion boot with some motorcycle features.

Alpinestars SMX-1.

I just bought a pair. It's a nice shorty boot with very good build quality, protection (including ankle support) and ventilation, as well as comfortable enough to walk around town and not have to worry about big boots vs comfortable casual shoes.

I would highly recommend. Just look at the reviews. It has the highest reviews of any "shorty" boot I've found, by far. I did hours upon hours of research and these are the boots I ended up buy, with really nothing else to rival them.

I did look at those and they were high on my list and very comfortable. The low ankle was what killed them for me.

+1 on the Alpinestar Web Gortex, comfy and definitely waterproof. 11 hour ride to Boston rained hard the whole way and my feet were the only completely dry part of me.

+ another 1 for the Web Gortex. Mine are pretty much shot from age and use, but I will likely replace them with a new pair.

For shoes I ride with Dianese asphalt
And for run around boots teknic
Love them both and can wear them all day at work too

I've been looking and I think I'm going with alpinestars smx2 boots for just bombing around town. They seem simple to put/on take off and they were comfy to try on. Price is also great and they almost pass for regular shoes even though they offer great ankle protection.

I just bought a pair of the Alpinestars S-MX1 boots last week in San Diego for US$160 and they fit nicely in my suitcase on the trip back. Good reviews and hope they are relatively cool in the dead of summer.

Does anyone have experience with Cycle Gear's private label "Bilt" gear? Most of there stuff seems to be well made and it's about 30% - 40% less than other brands.

That's what I wear. You won't regret your decision.

I'd take some ankle protection (like the height of the Indians appears to offer), which it seems most of the boots mentioned here would be too short to offer, over motorcycle-specific features, anyway. I've actually be considering these for my casual use boots: http://www.shoeline.com/product.aspx?ProductID=865 (not motorcycle-intended at all)

Sounds like the Rev'it Rodeos or Bleekers might be what you're looking for. Both have a street style, cover the ankle, and include motorcycle specific features. Revzilla won't ship Rev'it to Canada, but you may be able to order them locally (e.g. through Riders' Choice).

I'd probably like the Bleekers because they have the ease of a zipper to get on and off.

If there is a weak spot in my gear it is definitely my boots. Mine are very basic tie up bike boots with some basic ankle protection.

I am looking for one boot to do everything. I use my bike to commute on once/twice a week and then just cruise around on. Something that is easy to get on and off easily, are very comfortable, and have a reasonable amount of protection would fit the bill. Would the Web Gortex be a solid candidate for me?

While I haven't worn them on the bike yet, my guess on the alpinestars smx 2 was right. Mega comfortable and they don't look weird like race boots. Gp has them on at the show for 200.

Last weekend I scored a pair of Puma Bonneville Gore tex boots for $50 at Inglis Cycle in London. This is my first pair of Puma's, but I've heard nothing but good things about them. Can't wait to give them a try!

Your second option are nice boots. Not horrible to put that style on and off at all. However in the middle of summer they're warm if you're in them all day and should you get somewhere on the bike and then choose to walk around in them they can be uncomfortable to some people.

Thanks for that. I need to find an A* dealer that has these in stock to try out.
