Suggestions for a day ride from Toronto

Hey guys,
So my gf is getting more and more comfortable on the back of the bike and she's asked to extend the rides a little bit beyond Oakville, Mississauga and Toronto to see more places.
Any suggestions for good rides that can be done within a day? I'm thinking a few spots along Lake Erie or maybe a boot up some of the side roads north of the city (got a nice ride towards Collingwood on another post here)?
So far we've considering riding along the Lake to Niagara on the Lake, going to Port Dover, Crystal Beach, Long Point, or Tobermory up Highway 10.

It's a nice ride around the Niagara region. Once you reach Centennial parkway in Stoney Creek, head up the escarpment and take Ridge Road through to Beamsville, then regional 81 through to St Catharines. From there go to Niagara on the Lake and take the Niagara parkway through to Fort Erie. You can either head back along the QEW, or go scenic back through the Welland Tunnel. Take Hwy 3 to Dunnville then follow Haldimand Rd 17 along the Grand River up to Brant County Road 18 then back onto the 403 and home.

Here's a Map of the Route.

Tobermory is a boring ride, as is Port Dover. Search through my posts and find the route that I suggested to get to Collingwood. Infact, I think it was in a thread that you started.

Matt, yes that was your post. Thanks for that. I actually plan on doing that route in the next few weeks just trying to get the GPS to accept the map!
Thanks ck, that also looks like a great ride!

There's no need to use your gps, if that is what's holding you back. Just bring out a few google maps and use a highlighter.

You don't *NEED* to, but if you have the option, I bet it'll make the ride 100x better than taping the directions to your tank (or putting them in your tank bag).

I don't have GPS, and a few times I've done the google maps print-out thing, I've had to turn around after missing key turns, and be constantly monitoring the street signs and comparing to my direction.... a GPS would make things SOOO much more enjoyable.

At first GPS used to hold me back, now a days I bring it and leave it off.. nothing like riding blindly, once on a while. Keep a map with you and look for key points :) is more fun.

This is a whole other can of worms, but I rode for 8 seasons without a GPS. Getting lost and turning around and trying to find your way home with a compass and map is part of the experience.

I feel that using my GPS makes me less able to learn new routes and pay attention to the surroundings and as a result I'm just merely passive, instead of being active.

^^^ Absolutely right.
I've never had a GPS. I always use maps to get where I'm going and have been to a lot of interesting places along the way. ;)
In the Niagara region, if I ride in any direction long enough I'll run into a large body of water well before I can get lost :)

+1 on ck map.
Only change i would make is to stop in Dover for lunch :)
