Stoplights that never go green! argh!!!

I never noticed until i got my bike that lights at most intersections only trip when cars are parked at them. There is this one light i have to pass through every day going east on the way to work and it's a 4 way, but the traffic going east-west is very light so sometimes you can sit there for 5 minutes or longer until a car comes along and the damn thing trips to start the countdown.

The thing that really cheeses me is sometimes you get a teaser, where a care comes and stops at the red with me for a second but then turns right, making the light trip, and countdown.. but then just as it should stop the traffic going the other way it resets and goes green again. Such a piss off! and if i go another route so that i end up coming north on the other street to make a right instead it's like 10 minutes longer that way because i have to go away out of the way to catch that road.

So does anyone know the magical weight number that it takes to trip the lights? me and my 750 bike = about 770lbs.. maybe i should move up to an 1100cc and start eating more donuts? would that do it?

Ps: i did search this topic and didn't see anything, but probably missed it. apologies if it was brought up before as i'm sure it has been, just venting.

Moving up to a heavier bike will not work either.
My bike is 890 lbs and I am 225 Lbs and the lights still do not activate for me.
You have to call the road works people for your area, they should come out and adjust the sensitivity of the wires under the road.

How? Rear Ended?
no. overheated. it used to overheat before too. but as long as i kept moving and didnt shut off the bike, it would be ok. but that ****ing light just did not change. finally turned right but an intersection later it was already too late.

Solution... Right turn, then u turn, then right turn again...problem solved

No need to make a big deal about weight and all that nonsense...otherwise drive a car.

I deal with it all the time...either right turn uturn right turn or I run the light when it is clear. Never had a problem as yet. I ain't waiting no longer than a regular light change.

Call the city to get it fixed it needs adjusted. Until then treat it as defective and proceed when clear.

Same here, I get stuck at the end of my street. I regularly treat it as defective and run the red when clear. I have done the push button shuffle when I have to but who has time for that. Those burried cables look for steel, my tires are rubber and Kevlar, rims and chasis are aluminum, they rarely ever work for me.

Be careful if you are going to start doing u-turns all the time, the potential for a serious accident increases if its a busy intersection.
If it was cars doing all the u-turns in front of bikes we would have a problem.
Just remember that we are invisible.

Yup - I do try and time it around another car but I won't wait - I just watch the cross walk sign - if it doesn't change - I'm gone.
You get to know which lights work...and if SOME work - then the ones that don't are defective.....period...
Treat them as a stop sign.

I place my front wheel alone on the magnetic strip and it works every time on my Ninja 250. My bike can even win the left turn signal all by its own =)

On my ride to Scugog a few weeks ago there was a light that refused to change...with me and a TRANSPORT TRUCK w/ trailer waiting. After 5 min I just left.

Who can I call to get a clear answer on this? What if the road has a "No U Turn" sign? I want to see the "official" response they give.

I wait a reasonable amount of time, look for cops, and go.

Put your stand down when you're along on the light, preferbly the metal on them rubber things on the road

some have had success with that, good luck!
