Smog

City of Kingston from Amherst Island.

Apparently Waterloo is the highest AQI at 264 in that area. Very unhealthy. Thunder Bay at 564, that's almost lethal.

We're at 66 so far. MERV 13 in the home HVAC and running blower on high continuously. Put a Bosch HEPA filter in the vehicle as well.

Trying to get MERV 13's installed in the office roof HVAC units but the cheap f'ers won't budge.

Most furnaces hate merv 13 (unless you replace filter box to allow folded filters with far more surface area). They cause a huge pressure drop and likely reduce flow rate enough that there is insuficient airflow and condenser ices up. A separate hepa system, bypass filter or homemade filter box all can work to reduce indoor particulates without hurting furnace operation.

It's exactly the same in Hamilton.
Same in Kawartha Lakes right now, yesterday eve was brutal. If only we had some excess cash, like the 27 or so billion we`ve laundered in Ukraine for what? To make criminal scumbag politicians even more wealthy, that`s what. Not to mention the countless billions pizzed away in the last 11 years. That could handily purchase about 500+ DHC-515 waterbombers. How long before our American neighbors deservedly come at us...again, over forest fire smoke?

Install tech checked with Goodman as that was a prerequisite for my new install. MERV 13 is OK they said but I'll most likely have to change them more frequently to maintain acceptable airflow. I scored a Magnahelic differential pressure gauge from a decommissioned system at work so I installed that and change the filter when the airflow drops (4-6 weeks).

A pic of Amherst Island windmills shot from Hwy33.
Not smog but all natural smoke so it's better for you!

Seems better than the ‘60’s smog days. Toronto got the nickname “the big smoke”.

Carney planted more trees to burn. What a bastard.

I was at Disney Land in LA in the late 70s during a stage 3 smog alert.
Hardly anybody there and no lines.
However I had a sore throat for a week after!

I lived there in the early 80s. After a drive across the city, you could wipe your car antenna like it was an oil dipstick - the result looked the same.

I wasn’t much help… I drove a diesel Toronado that was setup to roll coal.

I’d forgotten the infamous “diesel” GM put in the Toronado and a whack of pickup trucks . Converted gas engine , what a really bad idea , but they held onto it for six or seven yrs .

The diesel GMs where deadly to follow on a motorcycle.
At least the 18 wheelers had stacks that got the smoke over your head.
The joke in the end was after the gas shortage was over diesel was in short supply and expensive.
I predict the price of gasoline will plummet after everybody buys an electric car to save fuel costs.
