Region of Peel Loud Vehicles

police have that 'keep the peace thing' , and work for the municipality in which they are employed. 200 people send a letter to the mayor, the mayor calls the chief and we get roadside sound checks. And while your getting the soundcheck they may as well look at plate location, mirrors and handle bar height and lights.

Keep up the loud pipes saves lives , its making things so much better.

A guns-blazing bank robber draws more attention than a sly cat burglar. Also, the moneyed classes prefer not to be disturbed by loud noises. Not a difficult equation to understand or solve, yet the answer eludes many. Coffee and cookie sales to a few local businesses won't relieve the pressure on the constabulary.

Well they might not save lives, but they are gonna save all the ss guys from getiing hta172 charges....the cops will be too busy with me checking out my loud exhaust.

A lot of muffler noise is unnecessary noise. That's just a fact. Being a car and bike enthusiast I still get kindergarden grade tingles from "performance noise". Engine roar does not equate to performance the way it once did. It's a juvenile and fantasy world. It's time to get over this and move on. I'm saying this because my neighbours' son has a new to him old high end BMW with the most annoying gutteral burble. His comings and goings are always an event with jockying the tin top racer into and out of his pit ever so expertly. When he fires it up I know I'm in for a solid 8-10 minutes of idling, rev tuning and extraction from designated pit area. GAH!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...@schneller felt that my pipes were loud, but was the only person to say so. My phone db meter rated them at less than 90db. Most Ferraris, Maseratis & Vettes in my hood are louder. Is my bike a screaming eagle? No. Does it have a nice rumble like my stomach after a night of beer and wings? Yes.

Yep. This.

Nobody has said for sure how they are testing. If it is the SAE J2825 noise meter test I have direct experience with it and think it's a great thing. My bike is loud. Like vtwin if I want you can easily hear me before you see me. But it passes J2825. Loud bikes pass, but obnoxiously loud bikes fail. Heard a few of those obnoxious bikes in the last few hours. A%%holes. I live near an area with some through traffic, and have found there is a significant number of obnoxious bikes and vehicles that go through in a day. By all means get the obnoxious offenders off the road. It is much more common than most people think. I know where testing in a city over six months found 25-30% of harley's failed J2825 because so many of those riders purposely bought super loud straight pipes.

If not testing using J2825, and instead using the broad subjective language of the HTA, then it will be a fail and welcome to ridiculous land. It won't help anyone. It could even be a check of anything other than stock.

So what's the testing?

or... get some real noise going!! lol I heard something yesterday.,,, head on a swivel,, and wooomph .. a 2016 Ford GT ..too fast to get a picture,, I was in NOLA in a cab heading to the airport

there are some newer corvettes around town that have a 800 hp cackle.. and a few other super cars. ,,, that have been modded and they are N I C E ! .. I can hear them approaching from behind my Harley, [not obnoxious, but loud] so I get excited when I hear the HP

but you know what....... I get a REAL THRILL from a modded TESLA ..because the acceleration of that SILENCE IS STUNNING!
and I've been beside the launch of 285mph nitromethane TF .. and Leroys TF Harley.. but that TESLA .. wow

I was just at my friends house, he has an F type Jag.
The noise that comes out of that thing is amazing.

That should be required as far as I am concerned.

**** it, loud pipes are crap. The harley crowd is the guiltiest of the bunch - next up would be the supersports with little trumpets masquerading as mufflers. It's a nuisance - that **** SHOULD be ticketed. If they're using db meters and doing a standardized test, I'm all for it. Ticket away. My house is several blocks from the main road and I still hear ******** with loud pipes through my closed windows. Hang em.

I live on a relatively busy road with a main road just a 2 minute walk away.

I personally love the sound of loud cars and bikes going by. I usually try to guess what bike or car it is for fun.

It lasts like 4 seconds and then you move on with life.

Unless you're me on those days when I used to go down Joe Bass' street and let my bike rip down there. That probably wasn't fun for his neighbours.

Halton got testing, limited but testing , a couple years ago. Its not stupid loud cars or bikes going down the street, lasting 4 secs. Halton region had collections of bikes meeting at coffee shops and really lighting them up when leaving. Many warnings were issued and the party carried on, literally rattling windows in nearby condos. Then the sound checks and ticketing started.

And its Halton, they have nothing else to do, its mostly affluent, crime is down and the budget is up. They have all the time they time they need. Hey they have a $650,000 police boat to do lifejacket checks, and three others for tanning and beach runs.

Easy stats is where it is at at police forces with little crime problems . Give out life jacket tickets and loud pipes .

So, is that a loud pipe issue, or a loitering and then unsafe driving issue? Because even the stock Civics light it up in the parking lot of the local Tims. Let them go because they didn't have a loud exhaust? And I would normally agree about the areas and the cops need to fill their budgets, but we're talking about Peel here. Iirc it has some of the worst crime rates around. Those resources could be put to better use, imo.
Was gonna check out the Brampton weekly bike meet when it starts up in May at their new spot on Gateway...I wonder how many people won't go now because of this.

As far as I recall, the sound testing that the MTO is pushing is the SAE J2825. Meters are few and far between due to their cost. But, the meter would only be needed to enforce the bylaw, as the HTA doesn't have a dB limit. The HTA only talks about 'unnecessary noise', and improper muffler.

Wonder if I would pass. My bike came with this sticker on it.

If the officer does have a meter and does write you a ticket, don't forget to ask him the last time the meter was calibrated.

I still don't understand what is so great about that area. Isn't there like just one road out there? I have my baffle's in anyways so I doubt it would be an issue.
The idea of having to navigate through the type of drivers in that area, just to ride one road is WAY more of a turn off than the threat of being pulled over so a cop can check out my pipes..

There are some other roads in the area, however, I do agree with you and never really saw the fascination of the blasting through the Forks. There are too many people walking around plus water run off etc... It's a nice road to just cruise through as you leave the Shed or ice cream place.

Sadly, some motorcyclist will run into a bicyclist or kid and they will drop the hammer some how.

The hairpin turn is good times.

My bike doesn't have a tach, I'd like to know how they're going to figure out what 4KRPM sounds like.

google sirometer. It's a cool device that is basically a mechanical tach based on vibration. I am not sure if any police agencies actually own/use one.
