Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Hopefully I'll soon be watching the documentary "Bring me Doug Jones" about the actor's rather singular career. It was funded via a Kickstarter campaign and should be shipping soon, plus streamed online for backers. He was directly involved in the production. Even when not in some sort of practical effects makeup, he can pull off incredibly creepy. He played the mayor of a town in the web series "Fallout: Nuka Break", just for the hell of it, and meeting someone who was like he played that character would have me crawling out of my skin to get away.

Shame it was nominated for 11 Oscars, only won two…up against LoTR was tough luck.
The studio was hoping to do all 20 novels but the sequel got cancelled.

Have you read the O’Brien 20 book series?? If not do it.
He is the best history writer ever …I found myself dreaming in Napoleonic English 🥴 I was so immersed. His attention to detail and historical research was astonishing.
Have read the series twice and just love the over arching story arc.
Learned a lot of Napoleonic history and geography….the greatest historical series I’ve ever read.

Ah that movie was worth staying up late for. 🍾

terrific reviews
I hardly recognised Colin Farrel - good cast too

Nautilus was mixed - maybe over ambitious

Good flick
some very emotional scenes …1998 race was unreal……100 MPH! winds for the boats and 90’ waves…..
Most of the video tho is covering off the Comache …incredible 100 foot ocean sailer …I’ve watched the start of the Hobart a few times and Comanche is always there right in the hunt.

....
Had not seen this ....on Netflix....good cast
damn Ridley Scott make good movies - really enjoyed that (y)(y)(y)(y)
And Kate Blanchett wields a mean sword on horseback
Robin Hood: Directed by Ridley Scott. With Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Matthew Macfadyen, Max von Sydow. and William Hurt

Spidy night

Sort of makes these more intense knowing Zendaya and Holland are married now and were a thing during this film and the previous ones
Her acting is just wonderful ...ability to be a convincing teen yet was nearing 30.
Chameleon and gorgeous.
Maybe I should hit the cinema

Think I want to read the book...the dialogue is wonderful. (y)
Great movie
Our man in Panama

John le Carré's world of seedy spies is brought to vivid life by John Boorman, with a knowing nod to Graham Greene

Love surf movies and this one gets fantastic reviews. I love Kauai - many fond memories going back decades. It's a crazy place. Mountains out of a fairy tale. Went back in 2019 ...quite changed but still insane geology.

Heartbreaking story ......******* drugs....
But what a tale and fantastic rivalry with Kelly Slater....excellent movie and incredible wife.

perfect segue
and we have a record El Nino in progress.

Damn that triggered a lot of memories of past trips to Hawaii - fantastic series.
Swap some memories of walking in the steaming caldera of the volcano on the Big island.
Been a long time since that has been allowed.
And triggered memories of lazy weeks on Kauai. :sneaky:
