Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Decided to check out this:

I thought it would have been a bad idea to try and remake an Arnold movie, and yeah it was. They tried to make it more like the book, which the 87 version was only loosely based on. But doing so didn't really help it. It's not a terribly bad movie, it has it's moments, but right from the get go something was off. The whole tone/vibe is all over the place. The lead tries, but can't pull it off. I'm not sure why movies today can't do some of the basics, like intro's, characters, and some semblance of cohesion.

After that I re-watched the 87 version, way more fun, yeah it has 80's camp but it all works. Not much is missing.
I feel the same way about "Total Recall" and the remake. I'm pretty sure that I'd feel the opposite about a remake of "Starship Troopers" if it was more true to the novel. because when I saw the original I really didn't expect, nor want, a parody.

What you don't like Paul Verhoeven camp? Guy has a unique version of it, and boobies! I haven't read the book, but ST is a fun romp. But hey in today's Hollywood, remakes and throwback are all they can do, you never know.

That's just it; you haven't read the book. I went into it expecting a serious story that examines Fascism, civic duty, and war, not a virtual comedy that makes fun of all of that. Saw it in a theatre the day after it was released. Oddly, the animated films that were made afterward are actually a more serious take on it.

^----- This. It's Heinlein. You're going to get taught a lesson in any of his writing. The book is long, almost banal philosophical sections interspersed with short hectic parts just as war is "months of boredom punctuated by moments of terror" on purpose.

starship troopers is an amazing novel if you`re a sci fi geek. They get power armor!

Extended? Or theatrical release?
Extended Blu Ray ....the damn Blu Ray 4k just won't play ....driving me crazy. From our sitting position 4m from the TV there is little visual difference.
Sound is excellent across the board and a nice feature of the FFox TV 55" is dual sound out so I can listen on the BlueTooth headphones and the speakers at the same time.....compensate for my failing hearing. 1766656458715.gif

From epic LOtR to somewhat mundane tho The Eagles are epic in their own sphere.
Good reviews and production values. Big stadium in Melbourne. HDR useful bringing out the instruments visually.(y)

Looked at this today..

Already watched one on this list. The others look great so this is the template for the next few weeks.
I've been thinking about checking out Sinners, but for some reason it just doesn't appeal to me. Even though it seems highly regarded and performed well at the box office.

I think I'm going to just try to work through these. I've found reviews don’t always give you an idea if the film is for you as I've found some poorly reviewed films to be great and some with rave reviews I hate. If I can’t take the first 10 mins I'll give it the boot.

Just watched The Ballad of Wallis Island on that list and it's fantastically quirky. So that's two for two right now. Well worth a watch.

Going retro ....we had 4 5 and 6 of Star Wars and quite impressed with the Blu Ray offering both sound and production.
I had a shot at all 6 movies for $10 and bailed on it now sad I did :( was really surprised at the quality and I think the original movie was the best of the lot.

Guilty pleasure time!

Oh the movie...

Had the itch to see it over the holidays, it's campy, but she's stunning... ummm it's a fun movie! Gets a lot of hate, but I think it's well done enough to be entertaining, and some of the sets are impressive.

Watched her new Netflix movie Wildcat a couple of weeks ago. I don't recommend it. And the movie isn't that good, either.
