Watching the 8 movie Harry Potter cycle trying to sort an Ultra Blu Ray issue.
Gave up after several disc problems - the standard Blu Ray included would play perfectly but the 4k would not.
Couple of other discs would not play at all.
So determined it was a player issue.

So Australia has consumer protection that covers electronics for 2 years or more regardless of mfg warranty.
So I call Panasonic about my erratic Blu Ray 4k player bought Nov 2023…
Wanted a replacement.
Flat out refusal and somewhat rudely …then 24 hours later got an email wanting pictures of the 4k Blu Ray discs and exact model of TV
:face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

In the meantime had contacted Amazon tho getting a live person took some chasing. Explained the problem. Within in 10 minutes I had a new one on the way - just have to return the old one after the new one arrives.

Now THAT’s the way a customer complaint should be handled.
I like Panasonic gear and put in a formal complaint about the staff denying what it actually the law in Australia…Apple bitches and whines about it but complies…it’s not optional for any manufacturer and in many cases can go far beyond the two years if it’s a major failure.

If I didn’t have a 50 year experience with Panasonic they would have lost a customer …at the very least he should have suggested I contact Amazon first…nope …just flat out refusal.
So he gets a black mark on his record after only a year on the job.
Respect the customer, respect the laws…hopefully he learned a lesson.

Now another guy had the same model and same problem - got a replacement and it had the same issue so got a refund.
Nice to know.

I must admit with the upscaling the TV has the standard Blu Ray discs are pretty good over the Ultras. Thinking I'm going to snag some of the second tier of fav movies on the used market.

I'm also sitting further back than usual so that helps with any grain. The HDR aspect works regardless of the Ultra or not and perhaps the bigger factor than the definition.
Engaged with the Potter series in Blu Ray and never a skip. Will be interesting in the Deathly Hallows movies as they are very dark.

The first Hallows movie much better with new HDR on the 55"...very watchable where the Samsung was marginal....so dark.

Deathly Hallows is like whole different movies with the HDR working well.
Still not fond of Harry and Hermione not hooking up but hey.....neither was the author.
However for once a long running series was wound up pretty much satisfactorial.

Might try The Matrix series next as a couple weeks enforced rest after minor surgery tomorrow. 🍿

Descent into madness...mix of the bleakness of Midnight Cowboy and Taxi Driver.
The transfer is superb, the sound is superb...all 4k should be like this.

I saw it when it first came out, while on vacation in Seattle. Watch for when they use "Dutch Angle." That's typically when he's having a dissociative break.

Joker a disturbing movie but brilliant and deserving of the awards.
Staying in the dark
I did not buy Batman Begins in 4k so streaming it...have the other two in the trilogy in 4k and of course the the Dark Knight in 4k got kicked out as incompatible.
Great cast in Batman Begins. The steaming io Netflix is pretty good even in near field.
Christian Bale is always top drawer for me and love to see Michael Caine. What an incredible cast/

Did not realize the GofT actor who played Geofrey was it this.....very young.

Segue into the other two in the trilogy since still available on NetFlix til Aug 6th.
Why can't DC attract talent anymore.

Damn Nolan does spectacle like no other.
On Netflix for a few more days.

Well I found the third one a bit of a hot mess and it looked like a budget trim. There was a feel of getting back to roots as an action comic with the punchups but also awfully disjointed
Had it’s moments, Anne Hathaway was very good in it and introducing Robin clever.
Michael Caine finally bows out - what a run he had
Freeman seems never to age.

This is a fair review - not up to The Dark Knight
The 4k was flawless except for one long freeze that resolved itself. The transfer was superb…it will be one I try when I get the replacement player.
Even nearfield it was smooth ….maybe it came via iMax transfer

No CG…that’s impressive

I found Nolan Batman trilogy to be very good, the first movie I felt is the best, the other 2 kinda felt off, Ann as Catwoman was excellent though. I might have to give them a rewatch.

Nolan is one of better directors of modern era, but I have to say his movies seem a bit cold, or mechanical at times.

Likely due to Gotham sharing too many of those features.

Incredibly good transfer in 4k especially in nearfield. Just a delight.

What a fantastic job they did on the eagles.
Trying to binge the whole trilogy.
The quality is just breathtaking. I'd forgotten some of the story....joys of being old.
Forgotten how good this is. Very enjoyable.
Too long for me to watch the third tonight I think.

So I'm undecided as to watching the whole LoTR cycle next but I think not not now.

This was well done. The improvement in the craft over the years very evident.

Well that was unexpected to segue directly into **Rings of Power** :thinks:
Maybe a good idea
Terrific casting but not up to Peter Jacksons effort but I will watch as some of the cast are wonderful.

Meh the Hobbit movies were not very good, seemed more self indulgent then telling the story well. Plus 3 movies for 1 book, too long and excessive.

I agree. They took a nice little story, that could have easily been written into a single movie, then dragged it out in "Spaceballs: The Search for More Money" fashion.

I'm off this week, so I think that I'll go to an afternoon showing of "Fantastic 4."

Partner is a purist as well and thinks too many Hobbit movies but I like the way it sets the table for the LoTR plus the technical achievement deserved more movie time.
I'm glad it he did it.

I have director and editor friends who looked at the barrel scenes and immediately picked out that they were shot on GoPro. Then they pointed out to me where you could see the flaws in costume and makeup, because of the resolution and frame rates that they chose. That very likely had an effect on my opinion.

Enjoy, I've heard good things about F4, but not so much about the new Superman.
I'm kinda done going to the theatre for movies, it's all about home comfort and convenience for me now.

Speaking of Spaceballs:

Looks like we might get a 2nd movie. It'd be hilarious if they just release the old one with a new title. lol!

You are welcome to your opinion.
The barrel scene was likely the weakest segment.

I first saw Lawrence in Winterbone and was very impressed.
I thought later work she ended up over exposed but enjoy her in Hunger Games which really reminds me of the original Roller Ball.
