Purchasing a Demo Bike.

Hi guys,
A stupid question.
what does demo means? Is it:-
1)The floor/display model
OR
2)A bike used for test rides.
As i understand we have to pay Freight and PDI on a Brand new bike. Do the dealerships charge Freight and PDI on a Demo bike? some of the dealers are asking Freight and PDI for a demo bike.
Thanks

Bought mine as a demo they paid the freight and pdi it has 5000 km on it but they also did the first major service at a 1000km I save about $2500 buying this bike

so if the bike has only 10 km on the odo. Should we say no to the freight and pdi?

I would say that freight and PDI would get charged to the first buyer of a bike no matter how long the dealer has had it or how many kliks are on it. BUT obviously deals can be made with demos that have been ridden hard and put away wet. Common sense would play an important role for me when thinking about buying a demo. A demo with more than say ~500 klms on it then I would try to wheel and deal. If they want you to pay freight and PDI no matter what then they should throw in some incentives like gear etc..

Demo day models can be bikes outgoing floor models, motorcycles used for demo events, or test rides. The latter of which usually gets the most abuse.

Depends on the bike. I can imagine a 600cc+ super sport being trashed while a sport touring or grand touring being lightly put through its paces, in comparison.

I don't know about you, but the test rides I've been on were at a granny's pace. Sure there might be bursts of acceleration, but I wouldn't call it abuse. Unless you're talking about 100's of people getting on and off it. There may be scuffs on the tank from zippers, or the body work from boots, etc.

According to a friend, a GM manager, a demo is a vehicle that has never been registered to an owner. How it might have been used is covered in the above posts.

What about a demo 636 with around 700km that was demo'd on the track..with shredded rear tire (actually looks like it's melted) to prove it? Worth the risk or pass?

Depends on the deal it will still have full warranty if it is 3 g or so below new price with no pdi or admin fees it is a good deal.

Here's the thing that was a hard 700 km for the engine and brakes.

Sounds like a good deal, don't worry about the break in that is what these bikes are made for. Many new engines are run on a dyno before shipping so have already been heat cycled and run at full rpm and load.

the one we are interested in is about $1500 less than the $14.5 k of msrp. it has about 10 km on the odo. and dealer is asking 13K plus hst and lic. Is it possible to get 1k off if we pay cash or it doesn't matter cash or finance.

If the dealer gets a kick back for the finance he might prefer the finance deal. Cash does mean a faster sale due to no credit checks. With low interest rates it doesn't matter all that much.

At my dealership, we always prefer finance. We make an easy $200-$1000 from the lender - regardless of the rate.
