Question for the group.

On a business trip to Germany circa mid 2000s I was gifted a bottle of Arthur Melsheimer Riesling-Sekt Favorit by a colleauge who was a relation and also named Melsheimer. He said it was the German equivalent of champagne. Almost lost it at the airport because I'd just tucked it into my briefcase.

Squeeze doesn't drink and I mostly drink beer with the occasional shot when offered so the bottle got stuffed above a cabinet for a "special occasion". It's been close to 20 years now I would think, a season finale and best time of 12.7 is going to have to suffice.

Is this bottle worth uncorking? Or is it something that should have been opened ages ago?

Cork or plastic top? Not that is would make a huge difference. Can you see liquid in the bottle? Hold it up to a light and look for any sediment. Even if it’s clear, it’s likely turned.

You can store the stuff for several years but, it should be horizontal, in the dark and temperature less than 18C.

You can always open it and if there is no “pop!” Then you know it’s done.

Whites don’t like to sit around like reds . If it’s been stored vertically it’s probably lost , hold it up to a strong light . If it’s dark yellow it’s probably done . But I’d uncork it after chilling well and see what you get .

We were gifted a vintage bottle of champagne once but it had been stored upright. Thing was flat as a pancake. I was very disappointed as I like a good champagne.

On its side the cork will stay wet and will clog up the pores that could let air through and make it swell to fit the neck.

On another note I've recently discovered El Diablo cocktails. Tequila, crème de cassis, lime juice and ginger beer. Delicious.

Lol.

I knew this looked familiar:

Let me know how many bottles you want me to pick up for you!
Booze that's cheaper in BC than Ontario? That's weird. Or are those empty bottles for $130 to trick your friends?

EDIT:
What's the black bottle? It looks like the white bottle is $320 in BC which makes sense.

Black is Clase Azul Mezcal at ~$550. I assume that is an empty bottle.

I had some of this last night.
It was really good and I will get more.

“The bench” wine is actually preferred by many “locals” of the Niagara region. Specifically this Cab Franc is quite nice. $40 nice? Debatable. But, we do pick it up from time to time and enjoy it.

Buddy got this from a friend and we tasted it tonight…wow…a hint of chocolate, and vanilla!

Delicious!

Cracked it this morning. Past it's prime perhaps but fine for Xmas morning mimosa's.

Interesting idea. Shipping would be a killer for most of us. @Lightcycle could figure out something interesting to do. $200 for a used wooden barrel, pickup in Vernon. Could you heat and condense to get the trapped product out? Make spurtles/spoons that smell fantastic (for a while)?

Just back from FL. Sold my house down there , my realtor gave me a case of burbon.

I declared it at the border, they said thanks and waived me thru with no duties!

Gonna be drunk for a few weeks.

Congratulations on the sale Mike. The exchange will give you some nice headwinds - I guess that is something to thank the Liberals for.
I'm more like the Johnny Cash song "One piece at a time" - Picked up a bottle of Basil Hayden when I was in Charlotte this week. I'm in Monterrey the last week of Jan so I will definitely bring some Circulo back with me - this stuff is ridiculously delicious
