Heh, there are a bunch of loonies out there.

Once, while I was in my car I had a guy pass me in my lane. If you're familiar with the Steeles and Markham rd intersection you'll know there is a bit of a lane for the bus on the Northwest corner. Going west in the slow lane, I had a guy pass me on the right using the bus lane as a passing lane but his car wasn't as fast as he thought. The lane was wide enough that he didn't hit the curb and I moved over a bit after making sure there was room. That guy was an idiot.
 
I've had a car pass me in my lane on my right side on a wide road. That was scary. When I ride with friends, we sometimes share a lane, and let each other know when to back off due to road conditions. It takes some communication to do it safely. I would never do it with someone I didn't know well, and this guy should not have done it to you. The only case where I think its OK with a stranger is at a stop light where you pull up beside a rider to chat for a few seconds while waiting for the light to change. Even then, I wait for the other rider to take off first.
 
Yep, I'd be mighty annoyed if someone passed me in my own lane.

There's got to be some co-operation, though. When I approach a bike, he's usually in the blocking position (left of centre). I'll stay behind, right of centre. If it's a city road, there's always another lane to pass. On rural two lane roads, I expect the leading bike to move over to the right and motion me by when it's safe to do so. It's the courteous thing to do. I've experienced this with a number of riders, and that's how I deal with faster bikes coming from behind. Let's share the road, eh?
 
Had a car pass me in my lane and use a bit of the shoulder (far right lane) on the 401 just 2 weeks ago. Flybys in the same lane on bikes is definitely not smart, as you don't know what your riding buddy/other rider is thinking...
 
Only ever happened to me once. Was cruising down a long open road in the blocking position riding a large cruiser (not a Harley) when I noticed a large group of bikers coming up behind me hard. The leader passed me on the inside while everyone else passed on the left. About 25 guys wearing their colours. No....they didn't wave either Lol!
 
And that's why I block other riders coming up behind me.
My thread on the subject got nothing but flames from people who don't understand how dangerous this kind of passing can be.
All you poeple who flamed me should pipe in on this thread and say how it was completely acceptable for this rider to pass him in his lane.
 
Agreed passing in the same lane no good but blocking a rider is a jack *** move to. As a lot of others have said u should be aware of ur surroundings and when u see a rider/riders coming up behind at a quicker pace move to the side and wave them through. I went on an awesome ride this Saturday and there were 6 of us, we had a "spirited pace" and came up to the guy on an older sport bike just crusin along and once the leader passed him( to the left in the passing lane) he flips him the bird. I don't understand WTF is wrong with people these days. Ride as u ride and keep it safe which doesnt always have to be within the confinds of the "law"
 
On a related note. I had this guy trying to ride side by side with me on Bloor in traffic the other day. He insisted on trying to keep pace with me and then chat me up at each stop. He was too funny. He had a brand new fully loaded Harley, leather jacket with this eagle thing on the back of it, and all the other "bells and whistles". I told him he had a nice bike, and asked him if he'd always been into Harleys. He said it was hist first bike and first season. I think new bikers think you're supposed to do stuff like that.
 
A right fist backhand would tune him up.

Can't wait until i am because getting passed by another bike that was behind you at a stop light is humiliating lol

LOL. Well, I've been riding 30 years and I still stall coming off the line sometimes. If I'm not riding very aggressively I tend to not use a lot of throttle off the line with the result that occassionally I stall. Not a big deal when you have electric startersand I don't really care if someone thinks I'm a "noob".

I'll try to facillitate other people getting around me, whether they're in cars or on bikes. Although, when coming up on a slower rider I will not pass them in their lane even if they do pull over and wave me through. Too easy to miscomunicate and crash or for them to pull back to the left for any number of reasons. I prefer to pick my own time to pass. I never understand why many people get upset when you pass them. You don't want to ride at my speed fine but why give me a hard time because I choose to ride faster than you?

Regardless, passing me in my lane will really piss me off.
 
Intimidation. He did it to punk you. It's funny how tough the pirates are...until you happen across them at a gas station. Then they're as polite as nuns as you walk towards them and stare them down. Most of them are very respectful, but there's the odd punk in any group.

lmao!! And you didn't speed up and try to ride with them?

If that happened to me, I'd probably **** my pants.
 
I can see by the 74 posts that you're pretty new to riding or just this forum.
When you let people take advantage of you, you will most likely get screwed. It has happened to me countless times. I will not let it happen any more.
I'm tired of getting screwed by other riders.
