Over pants for commuting to work + boots?

Hello,

Can someone please recommend some over pants, to fit over my dress pants, so I can wear them on my commute to work? Also, I'm looking for recommendations for commuting boots as well.

Hey Matthew,
When I used to commute downtown (work in office) I used the Joe Rocket Alter Ego Pants as over pants. I had whatever model was current in 2009. These were loose enough to wear over pants/jeans and also good enough to wear as riding pants alone.
The boots I love and will buy again are Puma GTX (They are Goretex lined so breath amazingly well and keep the rain out.) Used them in Torrential downpours many times.
 
I commute to work any day I can get away with it. I got my pants from Daytona Motor Sport in Maple. I think they were $120 or something like that. Came with a liner for colder weather and the pants were water proof!

Fit great over my dress pants and kept me dry during those random bad weather days.

Boots I got from them at the same time. They were some touring boots. Very comfy and 100% Waterproof. Half the time I just wear them at work with my dress pants over em and they look pretty damn good!
 
Another vote for the Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants, they are a decent riding pant to throw on over any pants. I've gone down while wearing them when I was power sliding my super moto in the rain. Pants held up great, minor damage to the pants and no injuries other than a little spot of rug burn from the pants moving over my skin. Granted this was in the rain but none the less they held up great.

Still have the pants and still wear them when I don't feel like wearing leathers.

I slid in mine too actually.. and they heldup ok. I lost the zipper bits though..The older models had foam (!) knee pads. I think the newer models have 3DO armour.

Royal Distributing has/had the JR 12.0 in their tent sale, along with matching jacket. The current line is now 13.0.
I probably need to learn layer better, but in the summer, I find them a bit too warm. They are very comfortable though, and conveniently come in short sizes. Would recommend, especially if you plan on stretching your rides earlier or later in the year.
 
I have a pair of TEKNIC overpants which have worked great for me. Work fine with regular fit jeans but anything loose and they become a bother. They also have a liner so I wear them on cooler days and then change at work.

Saw a guy yesterday with Rhino overprints which looks great for your need. Unzip the sides and boom hide them away.

As for boots...still haven't found something that works for me too well so I just use regular moto boots and then keep a pair of dress shoes at the office.
 
I highly recommend these Helly Hansen Chelsea work pants. $89 and 20% if ordered online. Cordura where you would want it and with built in knee protector pockets you could easily fit d30 armour pads in them. Cargo pocket for wallet so its not in your back pocket, even reflective piping. I have used plenty of different motorcycle pants from BMW-Rev'it-Joe Rocket-Arlen Ness and I don't think any of them are better than these. I wear armoured shorts and knee/shin pads under mine. I did order mine 2" over my usual size both waist and length to make them fit better while sitting on the bike.
 
Lots of good recommendations here. I almost went the JR route but ended up going with Olympia Airglide jacket and pants.

I wear them over my work pants when I commute to work and I wear them on their own when I am out for a regular ride:



I put some CE rated armor in the hip area in lieu of the cheap foam that is in there. The knee armor is CE rated. I rarely use the water resistent/thermal layer and just let them vent lots of air.

The drawback to the Olympia Airglide pants is that it seems like the knee armor would not stay in place if I were to do down. I usually wear strap in knee guards and have the knee armor in the pants put to the highest position which ends up giving me some protection above the knee.




I wear A* SMX-5 which I find quicker to don on and off than my cruiser boots I was wearing. The newer SMX-6 are even better as they have an ankle brace system now. It is not nearly as robust or comprehensive as the brace system in the SMX Plus but the SMX-6 is as easy as stepping into the boot and zipping it up and a bit of velcro closing. Easy peasy...



So... Olympia Airglide pants and A* Boots work for me. I commute a lot on my bike so this has worked well for me...
 
I shopped around for several weeks and Tourmaster Flex was the conclusion I came too. Happy so far.

Anyone know how to convert from g/m2 to denier? Specs on these say 219 g/m2 but I'm used to seeing Cordura spec'd as something like 600D. I've read the minimum you want for decent protection is 500D (but that could be bogus).
 
I got my self a pair of Firstgear HT overpants and am very happy with them thus far.
I like how far up the zippers on the legs go, making it really easy to put them on and take them off.
