open face helmet

Perfectly legal.

Yes they are... even safer than what was pictured there ^^^^^ in most cases as you get your chin, cheeks etc...protected as well

That seems a bit fake. "Holy **** dude your face is ripped off. Wait a second, i have to take a picture."

That looks like a great helmet for city commuting in the summer. I'm also looking at options for the summer commute to work and back. I feel safer in a full face when I go out for a full day though.

They all pass the same tests. I wear a convertible in Australia but it's flipped up 90% of time - useful in the rain at speed tho - had to buy a new helmet there and always wanted to try a convertible.
I like to be able to chat to people and feel enclosed in a full face plus they are a pain to get into with headphones on.
Buddy put me on to the Mag series and he's a race driver. The visor design is just brilliant and comes way down - thickest visor I've seen.
You'll find if you are puttering on trails the open face gives excellent visibility and is cooler.
Surprisingly it's quieter than most full face.
review here notes that

for $70 bucks it's a total steal.

That said I wore a Bell Star for years when on the RD400. Talk about enclosed !!!!!

Do you know if I have an XL Bell Vortex it'll be the same size on this one?

On a really hot day I will just wear my MX helmet. Much higher airflow than a street helmet without sacrificing protection.

To each their own but I will have never and will never wear an open face helmet due to safety reasons. I have landed on the chinbar of my MX helmet before and was thankful it was there. I have also seen a few street lids rashed all up the front that saved the rider's face.

Same -- I've seen enough stats which show the number 1 spot for impacts is the chin-bar area most times. Not to mention now I love my RF-1100 and can wear it for hours, so getting an open face helmet never even crosses my mind.

First drop I had I did a belly flop and basically smashed my face into the ground. If I wasn't wearing a full face I'd at least be missing a few teeth. No thanks.

Now one that flips up to make it easier to talk to people or take a drink without removing the helmet, that could be handy.

Shark Evoline, best of both worlds. Its a modular that is safety rated to ride in the open (3/4 helmet) position. Its nice to open up on hot days at slower city speed, but if you pick up the pace or go on the highway, you can pull the chin bar over at a stop light, or even while moving.

They are now distributed by Yamaha in Canada, so you should be able to check them out at any Yamaha dealer

I find it amusing that everyone who is interested in the open face or convertibles, talks about putting a full face on for highway or longer trip use but open for "around town"........the chances of you needing the added safety provided by a full face or closed position on the convertible is much much higher at low speeds in the city where by far and away the majority of motorcycle collisions occur. Just saying.

I agree with you. Even if I had a convertible it would only be to open the full front when stopped to talk, take a drink, etc. I'd never risk my face riding with it not in full-face mode. And I don't even like my face that much!

Not "everyone".
I use the convertible closed when it rains and ir Australia that's monsoon and it hurts and in the case of the KLR with the dinky windscreen it's quieter closed than open at highway speeds.

My Mag8 I use here is quieter than the Shoei TZ-R on the highway so I've stopped using it entirely despite it being a tad warmer in this weather and the Shoei fogs too easily.

do you also wear your full face in the Porsche ? ;) if not why not? :D
