Just got back from a cruise catching some places we'd not seen before.

guess not - see that little blue tinker toy - that's a tour bus

and that is not a small little stream

Nice - made it - rather hair raising - the whole bus clapped as we cleared an up bound car by an inch.

Norway is magic - farmsteads all over - and so lush. Late Sept and this is 62 degrees north!!!!! And it rarely snows or goes much below freezing on this side of the country. Gorgeous narrow winding roads and tunnels along the fjords.

Alesund where these photos were taken is the same latitude as the southern tip of Greenland, Whitehorse and the very far north tip of Labrador…..and not far off Baffin Island and it sure as hell doesn't look like Norway does at that latitude this time of year.

Did I EVER wish I had a bike to ride in Norway - lucky sods. !!!!

Beautiful shots. That road looks like it would be a fantastic ride but the consequences of a small error would probably curtail spirited riding.

If I had a sport bike there I'd surely rip it up. I live in other countries where the cliff is a 90* drop

I was there last winter. Gorgeous landscape and the women are amazing!!
im a sledder, so all I could do was daydream about hitting the mountains on a long track!

Glad you enjoyed the pics. This would be an amazing ride uphill at pace as you could see any vehicles fairly easily but those hairpins are serious - think the Forks so any pace on those would be difficult - still - what a thrill.

The rest of the country around Alesund and Bergen has loads of well paved winding roads. Anyone riding Europe should try and get into the area.

All the bigger fjords have excellent winding roads along them and there are many many tunnels. Think I only saw one bike tho and it was parked. Given the mild weather would have thought more.
Fair number of smaller scoots in the town.
Maybe they get their thrills with winter sports.

As far as European countries go, Norway is about as 'socialist' as it gets. It's often ranked very high in quality of life tho.

The punitive tax is on all vehicles that are hydrocarbon powered. Denmark is the same 180% tax. But if you buy electric or a high mileage vehicle it's subsidized or no tax on it.
So Copenhagen has few cars, thousands of bicycles and wonderful life style.
Get used to it - coming soon to a planet near you.

Unemployment is very low there 2% , they half a trillion dollars in the bank for the nation to use and the whole population is about the size of the GTA - 5 million or so.
We should hire them to run our resources unlike the ****ing clowns in Alberta who let the oil companies suck them dry and the idjits there are running a $3 billion deficit and Harpo is subsidizing the oil companies.
They know a sucker when they see one.

Norway and Sweden both have had a $50 a barrel tax on oil since 1991 and they are very successful countries ranking always near the top for satisfaction and infrastructure etc etc.
Sweden plans to be carbon neutral by 2050 and are already about 1/2 way there.

US?? we just give it away to the US and get ****ed over by the fossil fuel companies and break our world commitments to reduce GHG.

Yeah unfortunately cruise ships wait for no one - but we are plotting an open ended holiday in the area. You can get ferries around the North Sea and local flights are cheap.
Some nice spots on AirBNB as well.

Welcome to my place! You'll have your own bedroom with a double-decker, your own bathroom, your own livingroom, access to WiFi and to a guest-profile on my iMac. I will provide bed-linen and towels.
If you need to do your laundry; help yourself to my washing machine and tumble dryer.

If you bring a car, there's lots of space to park. And if you don't, and want to go downtown, I'll drive you. Unless I'm preoccupied; then you'll take bus+tram. It's about 35 min.
The surroundings here are beautiful! If you want to have a power-walk, and get some exercise, I'll show you a route towards our highest mountain in the area: Ulriken (645m). And you'll have a GREAT view of Bergen and the 'adjacent' islands and fjords.
If you have time, I'll show you around!
I'd love to show you a piece of the country-side, where I grew up. And I know of some beautiful places which are not listed in any brochure!
