Ninja 650R or VFR 800

Thanks for your advice! It will help when I try to sell my bike in the spring! Not that there is anything wrong with my Katana just thought Id try something new depending on if it sells. True that a VFR for 5000 would be an older model as the Ninja 650R is priced less. It helps to know about the handling and smoothness seems to be leaning more to the VFR. I also would of thought the ninja would get better mileage. Kev

I'm going to assume you compared insurance costs? The Vfr cost me more to insure than my car. 1100 for full coverage, the civic was 1000

A 2005 with abs and vtec, the best bike I ever owned for touring, but diy oil changes and maintenance are five times harder than my klr, with higher insurance and operating costs.

Go with the Vfr if it's in your budget.

I say neither. Corsa Meccanica has two Tuonos in the shop, one new (or new-looking) Factory and one that has a pile of km on it. Both should be pretty inexpensive. Awesome bikes.

I'm considering a newer VFR for my next bike, but haven't researched to see how they compare with the older ones.
It's GREAT! What are you waiting for? ;)

Look how sexy that is.. you know you want it!

Only issue I'm aware of is the variable valve timing, I've heard owners complain about the transition being too rough.
Maybe up to 05 years, but in 06 they change the timing. I've got an 06 and I don't mind it really.. it really depends on the rider I find. I'll be getting a Power Commander 5 and then I'll be able to tell if there really is a difference.. right now I have nothing to compare too :(

Also, on the vtec models, the cost of valve clearance checks is ridiculous.
I've heard various opinions of this.. if you're some what mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself and there's plenty of DIY write ups on the VFR forums!

I went from an 03 kat 600 to an 06 vfr 800 for the 2010 season. Coming from the Kat your going from a heavy bike to a slightly heavier one, your not going to to notice the difference like someone changing from a SS.

The only regret I have is not finding a vfr that had the hard bags, I have soft luggage that work with it but I don't have the security of lockable hardbags, or them being waterproof.

Hit www.cycletrader.com and see if there's any deals south of the border.

In all likelihood, it will be my next ride. The GSXR is fun, but the VFR is a heck of a lot more comfortable and practical. I really like the side profile of the new VFRs, but I'm not as big of a fan of the front profile. I could live with it though, given all of the other positive qualities of the bike :)

For you guys that like the VFR.......look up the F800ST......

Anybody that really knows me, knows that I am a Honda guy at heart. I had my heart set on a VFR once upon a time, but then the F won me over.

lighter, more flickable, belt drive, heated grips, better gas mileage, an absolute hoot to ride, and.... oh yeah.....its a Bimmer! :)

I did ride an F800ST once sharp bike but in the rain. Plus it would be a few G's more than what Im looking at spending.

Good point about the weight, I was hoping the center of gravity was lower or that it would handle better. My Kat is 460lbs and the VFR is similar.
