hey everyone... got into my 1st accident the other day.. was s/b islington near the 401. a mini van cut me off pretty bad where if i didnt get away from it i would have been hit.
I hit the clutch, braked and next thing i knew i went flying of the bike and was rolling on the road...

it happened so fast im not sure what i did wrong, so any pointers/criticisms are appreciated.

broke my pinky! but the bike is fine, very minimal damage. broken brake pedal and just a very minor scrape on the bottom. so lucky...

Did you grip the tank with your knees?...

Was the driver charged or did he get away? This is why i always record my rides, people tend to drive less aggressively when they see the camera.

Did you make contact with the van? Or did you panic brake and high-side?

Btw Gws

I have my contour on all the time however most people always ask what it is ;p To the op i'm glad your okay, get back on as soon as you feel comfortable and don't let it get to you; it happens. All the best.

If they can see the camera they are aware of you. The ones that worry me are the ones that can't see a bike, truck, locomotive...

GWS OP

+1 ^ I agree...if they can't see a motorcycle/pedestrian/car/truck...they sure as hell won't see a small camera on your helmet/bike. They drive more careful when they see it because they also see you!

GWS OP - glad you didn't get too banged up and bike and body live to see another day

GWS pinky.. glad to hear you are well OP

Could've been much worse, good to hear you're ok! Sounds to me like you were braking hard and turning at the same time? Try to do all your panic braking in a straight line then ease off or release the brakes and direct the excess momentum into a swerve.

for whats it's worth, when I wear a HiViz vest, I have less people following too closely. Still doesnt stop those infront of me cutting me off. They still have that attitude of "I'm in front of them, if they hit me , then its their fault" that most drivers here have.

Sounds like you were riding too close to Rexdale - worst drivers around.

LOL! Agreed...

the van bolted according to the witness, couldnt get the license plate... f'er...
i think i braked and swerved at the same time...it was so fast though, hard to tell..from what i read, i think i had a high side accident... i went over the bike and to the right, then rolled like crazy.

learned my lesson, going to try my best and not drive side by side anything large. just wish i could have learned some technical mistakes, but again, because it was so fast im not sure what i could have done to correct myself for next time.

thx to all the kind words all

glad you are okay, ride safe!

I had one where I was making a left hand turn in a cage at a traffic light, and there was another person who couldn't wait 5 cars back and decided to make the turn at the same time I did (btw it was a single left hand turn, not one of those multi-lane left hand turns). I made it a point to make eye-contact too, when he saw me, let's just say he sent an interesting message back, just because he couldn't wait.
