Movement alarm

I'm going on a bit of a motorcyle trip this summer and have been thinking that a motion sensitive alarm would be a good thing to have on my bike during the night, sitting outside a motel room door. Thoughts? Any experience, or recommendations positive/negative?

Something that locks onto a disc or spoke or chain, would be good.

Yep. Scorpio i900 best bet for a full alarm system or a xena disc lock also Works great

I used a lightweight bike cover plus a xena disc lock in hotel parking lots. The cover keeps prying eyes away and the disc lock would have gone off if someone tried to move the cover too.

On my old bike, the disc is solid - no holes. 1975cb750

Almost hate to ask this, but has anyone tried a Chinese alarm padlock from ebay?

seems interesting, it is $130 on sale at canada's motorcycle right now though with the pager.

A scorpio is nice because it's just part of the bike, no extras to carry around. You can adjust the sensitivity of the proximity alarm and it gives a warning beep that gets faster which is great for making people sprint from the bike

great idea and keeps the dew off which can get very heavy in some areas tho I think a proximity or movement lock would be useful.
Mind you depends on the bike.

This^^

Also: get "Roadlok". It's a wheel lock that is installed on your bike and there's no risk of damage if you forget to remove it and try to ride away.

Sh*t's expensive but in my opinion is really worth it!

With my old bike, a cover may lead someone to believe that what is under the cover is something better than it really is. :D

$95 US on Amazon. Best price out there. Altho, if Canada's Motorcycle has them for $130, it'll work out to that with shipping from Amazon.

No wiring and you get to keep it of you sell. It's the best alarm option out there IMO. I own three of them. The support from the company is great too.

Edit: Of course Low Jack or Boomerang being the ultimate....but no one wants to pay that kind of money.

of course your old bike be a collectors item for some.

Does anyone know of a study that actually finds locks and alarms to be effective?

I didn't think anyone paid attention to alarms any more.

Others don't (pay attention to car alarms anymore), but you would if its your bike parked outside your motel room door.

BINGO.. main reason I know few riders with them installed.

I have a two-way installed on mine... I don't trust most people to step in if they see a bike get stolen, but it's mainly for me and peace of mind.

I have walked out of a restaurant once to find some guy sitting on my bike because he wanted to 'see how it felt'... and he was one of the cooks in the restaurant that saw my bike when he walked out the back door. nonsense..
I told him to get off.

I find my gorilla alarm kills my battery and just results in a ton of false alarms with the motion detector installed. I also use disc locks and a cover.

My front disc is solid, but I think I can put a padlock in the rear sprocket as it has holes.

Yeah, the gorilla alarms can be nasty. I know the scorpio alarms will only do a minimal drain on the battery and has a deep sleep mode if the bike battery goes down too low. I have used a scorpio on a bike for over 2 weeks without use and there was no battery drain - bike started ok. After 30days the scorpio has a nother mode( sleep or turn off - cant remember)
