If you were to ride the ex500 on the street instead of the track, what motor oil would you recommend. Just your opinion I know but Dino or synthetic? 10w, 15w?
I would recommend you use the oil recommended in the manual: SAE 10/40 SG or 10/40 JASO-MA.
The only reason I would use synth oil is to extend oil change interval.
People change oil too frequently, because:
1. It's easy to do
2. It's cheap (or should be)
3. Oil marketing
4. Internet forums that run on pure bullsh-t.
Oil -related failure is really rare, even on a sports bike.
Same problem in cars. My dealer says i must change my oil every 5000kms, the mnaual, and the car computer, says every 15,000 kms.

Someone I know contacted motul to ask this very question when 7100 came out and that's what they said. I have nothing to prove to you, nor do I care to, call them and ask if you don't believe me.
I used to do that as well. That's why these oil threads are hysterical to me. Nobody knows anything but they all stand firm to the belief that what they have decided is the gospel. Almost as bad as religion.
My advice is to buy the most expensive oil possible. For sure a quadruple synthetic hyperblended dylithium platinum filtered magnetic super racing oil.

So with all that insider information, I'd be interested to know how you came to your decision on what oil to use?
Seriously though I agree with your statement, so why not challenge it. If the idea that 300V doesn't last long enough for an oil change interval on a streetbike, where's the proof?
I found this thread, and thought it was interesting. In this analysis 300V held up impressively over 5000kms in a VStrom and maintained the same viscosity as new.
So then draw the line between the VStrom and built superbike. Pretty much anything you own will be well protected with 300V. if you want to save a few pennies, use the 7100.

When I hear"I've been using super duper oil X and no problems so far"
Uhhmmmmm Have you torn the motor down for an inspection of the bearing surfaces?
No? So what you're telling us is to date your motor hasn't desolved into a puddle under your bike. Thanks for the recommendation.
It is worse than religion, it's ADVERTIZING! Oh same thing I guess, all lies and pleading for your money.
I wouldn't be trusting Bob the oil guy for advice.
I also wouldn't be running a "race" oil in a street motor.
I didn't stay at the Holiday Inn last night, but I do buy oil analysis in blocks of 24.

Well, many people out there are just tired of unqualified opinions without any verifiable proof. Posting your oil analysis is probably the closest thing to objective evidence out there, although they can also be influenced by differences in usage, as well as sample contamination.
As far as that goes, I have yet to find any evidence that suggests 300V is not appropriate for a street bike. I would be very interested to read it if it does exist. Btw, my street bike runs 5100, so I don't have any ego involved in this discussion. People will run whatever oil they feel comfortable with, based on whatever information they have gathered, and that's totally their prerogative.
