Local Auto Thefts

I'm not certain what I'd do if someone blocked me in, and they came to my car window.

Maybe pull out my cell phone and start filming them, call 911, put on my 4 way flashers, sound the horn continuously, all the above??

If someone then started to pound on my window, like this guy did, then all bets are off. I'd be driving away and if the carjacker was in the way I'd drive over them. TFB for them.

I wouldn't do any of those things. I am dealing with someone that doesn't care about me or my family. Nobody around will come to help so making noise just pisses them off. Recording them just pisses them off. The way I see it, there are two reasonably safe options and one riskier one. 1)Give them the keys, it's just a stupid car. 2) Drive away (probably get dinged with an at-fault accident as insurers are also crooks) 3)Call 911 and hope that cops show up before bad guy pulls a weapon (I think your odds are very bad).

If it was an aggressive person who isnt law enforcement, maybe its time to consider changing the laws in order to allow you to defend your wife, aging parents and young children.

I recently came to learn that PPC was supporting just that along with "castle law": Self-Defence - PPC.
The problem is a self entitled individual could get upset at a raised voice and pepper spray you or use a lethal weapon because "I felt threatened."

I believe in the castle doctrine concept but it is open to abuse in this psycho society.

Agreed.

Thinking that they were looking for stolen cars but they found this instead.
At least one of our homegrown industries is trying to develop new markets.
Bulk shipping Canadian cannabis to Nigeria who would have guessed?

Does the government profit from car thefts?

You buy a nice car @ $100,000 and pay $13,000 HST on top.

It gets stolen and your insurer cuts you a cheque for $113,000

You buy a replacement and pay $100,000 plus $13,000 HST

The government take is $26,000 unless there is an input tax neutralization with the insurer.

Same goes for the manufacturer's.

property crime in general is good for the economy.
It helps the bottom line of everyone involved except the victim although a good percentage of the victims sweeten the pot with some good old insurance fraud.

Just think if there was no crime and the jobs eliminated. No locksmiths, few police, less insurance, only civil courts but if there were no criminals where would we get our politicians?

There is serious truth in that, I`ve thought that for many years. The legal system is a mega-bucks industry.

Surprisingly Quick police reaction time, caught the thieves in the act, as well as the homeowner who fired his gun to scare them away. No surprise most of them were already out on bail for other crimes.

That is the last time that homeowner gets to fire a gun in Canada. Almost certain they will take all his guns and license. Firing into the air to scare them away was stupid but it is infuriating that the homeowner will have far bigger consequences than the dirtbags.

Did police respond quickly to an auto theft or to gunfire? Should a person have a recording of gunfire handy if they want better service. No firearms involved.

Imo a recording of gunfire is useless. Nothing you play it back on will have the light and sound theatrics you are hoping for. Firing a blank would be an interesting compromise. That would be much safer but I think you'd still be charged as you discharged a firearm. You've also exposed yourself to return fire while armed with a glorified hammer.

Sadly, the justice system in Canada is very clear. They aren't interested in protecting us from dirtbags and they will make damn sure you pay for trying to protect yourself from dirtbags.

For property crimes, as infuriating as it is, the safest path is let it go and file a claim.

Sadly true. We have a useless system of clueless judges, boneheaded laws, possibility of minutes on hold 911 calls and an overworked, stressed Police force. Four dirtbags lying dead on the drive, full of bullets would be the proper end to that event. Just a failed B&E should be game on. Once again,...Canada...soft on crime. Pathetic.

What`s it going to take to change things in this clown world Canada? Some crew of criminal vermin to do a Manson crew/Tate, et al thing on a politicians family? Were those guys after the Lambo staging for a full on home invasion, would you roll the dice saying no? Holy Funk!..wake up Canada. When a dude with a ton of child porn charges gets house arrest you know we`re done.

There seems to be a lot of public support for the shooter. I hope some big bucks lawyer defends him pro bono.

Break in home attempts...

2 weeks ago I had a company come by to reinforce the doors and install security film on the door glass, Bay windows and basement windows.

I'm not rich by any means, but if it means causing the adversary a long enough delay for the police to 'hopefully' respond, I'm all for it.
However at this rate I'm starting to wonder if its time to look into offensive security options
