true. no reason for it to be illegal.

past winter, i saw countless cars with their plates (without plate covers/protectors) covered with salt/snow/dirt (especially pickup trucks). such that i couldn't even read the plates.

if anything plate covers help protect license plates from dirt and especially salt. some people have custom plates and no sense in not protecting it, why leave it exposed to the elements? just more laws that make no sense.

Thank the fools who had to have tinted or colored covers. When the goal was conceal your plate from cameras like the 407 it's not shocking they were deemed not legal.

valid point. then the law should be specific "ie. Tinted/colored covers" .

so logical individuals who just want to protect their custom plates can use clear protectors.

Because I have a custom plate that I'd like to protect from crap. Been using clear covers on my cars for years and never had a problem.

Maybe it's placed up in front of the rear tire, as with some fender eliminator kits. In which case, it won't be the clear cover restricting the view. Even a clear shield can reflect sunlight, streetlights, headlights etc, obstructing the license plate.

Riding on unpaved surfaces you end up with quite a bit of debris hitting the plate.
Thanks to those who helped. I think I found sonmething that should fit the bill.

Just to further the information. My plate, smoke, is seen by the 407 cameras.
