I am talking about governments in general from the city level to the Federal level. Tell me why they all get paid more than any equivalent job in the private sector.

And is in most cases harmonized with most of North America (reciprocally with the USA) so that models of any vehicle produced for the North American market are compliant with most of NA out of the box/off the line.
Yeah, so in the end, it’s been like this for decades across all flavours of provincial and federal government. And if anyone wants to dispute or try to change them because they feel something or other is stupid, good luck with that as you’d need to get the rest of NA onboard.
Society without government becomes anarchy. Even jungle tribes in the Amazon have a leader.
It’s not to say government is always perfect, far from it, but the “everything they touch turns to crap” song and dance is hyperbole. There are endless things that people enjoy every day of their lives that is the result of government, they just don’t see the good stuff, they only focus on the bad.
And “I don’t like this rule so it sucks and is stupid!” thing doesn’t make it so.
There is a simple solution to the Safety Inspection issue.
Buy a new motorcycle.
If you can't afford a new motorcycle buy a stock used one.
If you just have to buy something that has been butchered price it to include cost of taking it back to stock.
Remember OEM parts are not mandatory as long as parts meet specifications.
Having lights with DOT designation is always a good bet.
Once your motorcycle is registered you can do what you want with it.
Just don't get stopped for speeding or get in an accident.
Just keep in mind that you may want to sell it some day so keep those original parts.

Standards exist for a reason. Imagine what would happen if they didn't exist. A Ford Model T had different controls from a curved-dash Oldsmobile and both were different from what became the modern layout of instruments and controls. Imagine if roads had no rules, no standards. Works when there is only walking traffic.
Who sets standards? Sometimes it's industry consensus, but that can only go so far.
