Let the City know what you want to do about e-bikes - official survey

done. Had to laugh at the question that informed that bikes cannot use the sidewalk. That'll be news to most Torontonians.

Saw that one on another forum I'm on and filled it out a couple days ago.
Even up here those things are an issue. So many times I've had close calls because the people that use these things just do whatever they want.

They should be licensed and insured and need at least a LSM license.

finally. I really *hate* those things and often a large proportion of the riders who are on them cause very dangerous situations.

I'm glad that I dont see many of them in my commute now.

I made sure to mention, when you can, that filtering should be legal for all 2 wheel vehicles.

****, I forgot to write that. I wrote we should be allowed in bicycle lanes though lol

these bikes are used mainly by people who have lost their licsenses due to drinking and driving, they need them to go to the beer store.

"E-bikes, which are lighter than motorcycles and could be stolen if left on the street".....riiigghhhttt

I put that too "I use bike lanes for: Other - my motorcycle" :)

Also that they SHOULD have insurance and licenses!

Some may think its over kill, but I really feel that E-Bike riders should be required to wear DOT approved helmets.

They oughtta be educated about safety, traffic rules and all sorts of other driving related policies!

they have a selection saying e-bikes should have to be insured. I usually dont see them going fast enough to even cause any real damage. No faster than what the average human can sprint at, I think highest speed for a human sprinting is around 40km/h.

Youd be shocked as to how much of a dent they'll make in your door if they hit you. Or how much physical damage they can do to a human body when they hit.

i definitely think they should be licensed and insured for those things. Here in mimico its a lot of em sitting outside bars and you can see how wobbly they are on em.

Come on toronto is just retarded anyways. Most people can't even follow walking rules . What's next walking insurance? Let them be. If we're getting screwed with insurance why do we have to drag everyone with us. People on e-bikes really aren't that bad. A lot of people use them to get around. You guys act like the ********** that open doors when we lane split. Unbelievable how bitchy everyone is.

Pile them up and burn all those contraptions! You want a bicycle - get a bicycle, but don't get that retarded piece of crap. They are very slow, they take way more space than a regular bicycle, and these "e-bikes" only contribute to people getting fatter.

Not hard for 250+ lbs of machine and rider to put a big dent in my quarter panel that would cost over $500 to be fixed. I'm not paying for the repair if it's someone else's fault and they don't have insurance. I'm one of those guys that likes to have a mint vehicle. Any kind of "small" damage done to my vehicle that isn't my fault matters to me as it's my property.

I see a difference between these things and actual pedal bikes. For someone to cruise substantially at 30km/hr (the max speed supposedly of these e-bikes) on a pedal bike, they are someone who is fit and obviously has ridden long enough to have some skill and experience. Add that to the fact a pedal bike is more nimble and can stop faster, and carry less momentum, they are less likely to have an accident, and the damage if there was an incident will be less.

How many of us have seen them hauling a 2-4 from the beer store on government pay day?
I've seen one with a baby seat mounted on the back, kid strapped in, no helmet and maybe 3 years old. Yep, safe.

Did my part. I will also contact my councilman. He's a very reasonable guy, highly community-oriented, a breath of fresh air in that den of thieves.

I second this. They should be insured and lic'd for the street and keep the f*** out of the bike lane. If we all have to pay to have two wheeled engine powered machines on the street why shouldn't they? I also agree with the comment about people with dui's getting them to get around. I personally know of 4 people who did or are doing this currently. Shouldn't be allowed at all.
