Since most of this thread is predominantly negative (rightly deserved imo), here's a positive for the cops (negative for courts as really there isn't much good to say about them). Press release from Barrie cops. 90 second response time to B&E at 03:30. Male, no fixed address on probation arrested. Held for bail but who wants to bet what the court is going to do?

"This morning at 3:27 a.m., the Barrie Police Service received a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence located on Poyntz Street. The elderly homeowner reported they heard someone at the rear of the house on a deck. This was followed by the sound of breaking glass and the sound of someone entering the home.

Responding officers were on scene within 90 seconds and immediately contained the area. As they approached the rear yard, a male suspect was observed running from the property. After a brief foot chase that abruptly ended in the driveway, a 42-year-old male of no fixed address, was taken into custody without incident. He was later transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued, and it was determined that he was on probation for a previous criminal conviction.

Police on scene were able to confirm that a screen had been removed from the window that had been broken and as they arrived, the male had just entered the home, only to hastily exit as the officers made their way to the backyard.

The male has been charged with Break and Enter and with Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing today, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie."

That's damn quick. The perp may have been under surveillance, maybe it was serendipity that they were driving near there at the time the call came in, as that time is unheard of.

Downtown barrie is not a good place (especially at night). I would hope they spend most of their time patrolling down there.

Another case of the cops trying and the courts epically failing.

I wonder who is pulling the strings to make the default reaction to a bail violation granting bail again?

It is appalling that breaching bail isn't an automatic trip to the slammer unless you can come up with a very convincing reason why it won't happen again.

Police in Durham Region are warning the public that a high-risk violent offender has been released back into the community.

Police say 45-year-old Keith Theodore Constantin was arrested for breaching conditions placed on him by the courts. He was held for a bail hearing and released the following day.

Police say Constantin poses a “significant risk” to the community, especially children

According to police, Constantin has previously been convicted of sexual assault, sexual assault with a Weapon, assault with a weapon, assault, robbery, possession of explosives, uttering threats, and failing to comply with probation orders.

Bet the house was next door to a timmies or an empty car park.

How many hours till he gets released again?

"Bail compliance officers are part of the Offender Management Unit, a new partnership between the Windsor and LaSalle Police Services launched in March 2024. This specialized team supervises high-risk individuals placed under house arrest, curfew, or electronic monitoring – and ensures that those who breach their judicial release orders are held accountable."

Held accountable? On what ******* planet? Released on bail 3 times in 6 years? When the *** are they planning to hold a trial? Never?

This could get interesting. If this law applies on what is ostensibly private property, then does that mean a cop can charge you for using your cell phone in your own driveway or a shared residential parking lot? The latter is much akin to the drive through, from the point of view of 'public access', which is how many traffic laws are applied on private property.

At least this was in SK and isn't an incident in ontario (yet).

"
"They can only be charged if they are on a highway, which includes the sidewalk and driveway into the establishment," says Const. Clint Stibbe, with Toronto police traffic services. "The drive-thru, if on private property, is not included because the highway ends at the edge of the sidewalk closest to the establishment."

That's because Ontario's Highway Traffic Act (HTA) doesn't apply on private property, like drive-thrus or shopping centre parking lots."

Happened to one of the former members here. Can't remember his name. Started with a D. Raced SM. Died a few years ago. @Gary knows him. He was stopped in Timmy's drive-through in Mississauga and a cop walked up to his window and ticketed him.

*EDIT*

Nice guy. @reciprocity aka Donovan Paige. He had a number of kicks in the ass triggered by law enforcement (seemingly ill-deserved).
