It's A Thing Now.

The e-bike people are overwhelmingly granola/anti-establishment/gluten-free types that work for fluff non-profits. They buy into a lifestyle, just like the rest of us.

LoL no they're not...come to my area and these guys are not granola / anti-establishment / gluten-free types....they're drunks who most likely lost their license!

The ones you speak about IMHO are the scooter crowd and bicycle crowd who are holier than though.

E-bikes....drunks who got caught and lost their license.

No regard for the rules of the road or anything else around. With their bicycle helmet undone or hanging on the handlebars. The ONLY and I mean ONLY good thing about them is when they run out of battery power on their way to the bar up the bridge on Islington....now that's entertainment!

lol, maybe

my sample size is limited to the downtown core

bicycles, mopeds, e-bikes

i hate them all equally

Isn't that bit like saying all motorcylists are blue collar under-achievers?

Matt, sorry I don't mean to be an a $ $ but in my personal experience / views / opinion the vast majority of e-bike riders are the ones I mentioned. Plus the topic brings me to a boil because they're such blatant disregard for everyone else on the road it's ridiculous. I've personally almost hit a few of them when they run red lights / stop signs or got hit as they're wobbling on the sidewalks.

Come to Mimico during the summer and check out what's parked outside of the bars....they're not scooters, motorcycles, or regular bikes. They're the ****** $600-1000 e-bikes. Also a good place is the local LCBO and beer store. I'll give them creativity points for strapping a 24 of beer to them.

I've also had a few cops tell me the same thing. It's unfortunate but it's a good way to get around their DUI conviction.

Unfortunately most times the pedestrian gets massively injured or killed for their stupidity. However, it's the car drive that is the one that ends up paying for a MUCH longer time!

I believe one of the members here got sued for a huge amount of money because he killed a pedestrian in a lawyer happy family and the case dragged through the courts for a while. Can't remember the specifics though.

But yes I agree, pedestrians / cyclists feel like they own the road and the hell with cars. It's like they're daring us to hit them because they know there's a payout at the end, or sometimes they're just a bunch of idiots that cannot for the life of them fathom anything bad happening...."won't happen to me" - famous last words!

Makes total sense. You don't see those in the city is all, where a lot of people don't have cars to begin with. I have several coworkers in their 20's who never bothered to get their driver's license. No need/interest. They're prime candidates for e-bikes.

Plus a lot of the people at my safety course had no interest in motorcycles and would've settled for a limited-speed license if they had the option.

I already shake my fist at today's kids and I'm only 34.

That's the one I was thinking of. Goes to show how f'ed up this society is. The jaywalker was clearly in the wrong. Yet because his family is a bunch of lawsuit happy lawyers they went after the OP.

Matt, also 34 and shaking my fist and the 'young kids' today. I've read that the younger generation is less and less interested in driving / owning a vehicle due to costs and frankly...they just don't care about it.

For me having a car was a right of passage and I couldn't wait to get behind the wheel, even to the grocery store!

That's what's forcing the car manufacturers to make the cars today as appealing as the latest Samsung Galaxy whatever-the-model. It's a double edged sword, the more gadgetry in the car to appeal to the yougins, the more distractions, and the cycle continues.

...so whats your point ?? are we supposed to feel sorry for the automakers because young people dont want to buy their crap anymore ???

Because its just the auto makers that suffer lol. Mr. Chrsyler

It's funny when I go look at cars and they start showing me all the stupid gadgets. I don't care about any of that. It can all be replaced with aftermarket stuff for half the price, anyway, and it'll be outdated in a year. Tell me something meaningful about the car. I don't care about the built in GPS that costs $200 to update the maps in a year or the stereo that connects to the iProducts I don't own.

Oh, I get it, you think because these are electric bikes, the riders must be highly educated leftist environmentalists?

Those guys are on bicycles.

These eScooters are bought because they are cheap, and don't require a licence. Ontario had this same problem with mopeds in the 80s, the solution was to call mopeds motorcycles and require licence and insurance. This is already in the works at the MTO.
it was more of a joke about Hippies but sure, you can take it so seriously there

This is a difficult concept for Millenniums to understand, that it is not just about the short picture and what is good for them at that moment. after all it is a me me me culture
